How much was your 6000 miles service

sounds like you were ripped.
annual OR 6000 miles from the last service is what it says

I would ask the service manager to go through every item in detail as I had effectively the same service for £154.

I would be very interested to understand why changing the front brake fluid, and the rear brake fluid leaves you with another item for changing the brake fluid in the entire system!

Did you not get a quote first and also try another dealer?

Can you please name this dealer so that the rest of us can avoid them:mcgun

Just looked at the 24k service bill for my RT which also included the annual - it is common I think to combine the two. The parts costs are exactly the same (except I got a 10% discount for having it done in the Winter) but the oil was a lot cheaper - £14 a litre for ordinary GP seems like an awful lot. Labour was longer (30 units - lots of tupperware) but cheaper.

The gearbox oil change was £15 including labour, seal ring and oil.

Loan bike was free.

Didn't have the brake fluid change so can't comment.

why not take your own oil in, my Triumph dealer lets me do that, as did the dealer I bought my Aprilia Tuono from; saves a fair bit of cash, so long as it meets or passes the required spec it should not be a problem.

I think its high, but I don't really know. I guess its for ^K and 2nd annual which includes all the brake fluid change etc, but I'm not very mechanicly minded, so I don't really have much of a leg to stand on. To be honest, its not the cost that is a bummer, its also the service I recieved. You'll notice there are 2 days of bike hire. That's because despite me dropping it in before 9am, my bike wasn't ready until mid day the following day. For me, that's just unacceptable. I booked it in way in advance, they took their time, and then charged me for the extra day of hiring a bike. On top of that they didn't call me to tell me it wasn't ready despite telling me originaly it would be ready the same day.

I guess if I'm paying that much for a service, I expect a very good service.

sorry, don't want to start an internet whinge, as I should take it up with them directly, but on the day, I coulnd't argue against the costs as I don't have any knowledge of whats being done, so effectivey they could tell me it was all needed and priced correctly.

NAME and SHAME this dealer

I'm fed up with hearing of dealers who deliberately exploit the slightly ambiguous service schedule

Thanks for the feedback .. I am definitely going to ask for a quote before I get the thing serviced next time.

OK, here are the details from my monster bill. Deal is that it had 6000 mile service + 2nd annual inspection. Basicly I bought it a year ago as an ex demo with 2k miles. It had its 600 mile service march 2007, and I'm certain I was told when buying it would need servicing at either 6K miles or March 08 whichever was sooner. However, was told when booking it in it would now need its second annual as its first annual should have been in september 07.

Anyone care to give any advice on whether that looks normal? I have no idea what AW is. I'm guessing its time units?

Thanks in advance.

JD

Their hourly labour rate is just under £85 + VAT!!!! With VAT that comes in at a smidgin under £100

You have been charged £134.59 +VAT labour just for the brake fluid change !!! With the VAT that works out at £158!!! That is excessive!! There is no way that the combined 6000 + annual service should come in at a that level. It's time to name the dealer!

COUPLE OF ISSUES WITH THIS.

2 ROCKER COVER GASKETS? WHY WERE THEY CHANGED AS NOT PART OF SERVICE. MUST HAVE BEEN PI55ING OIL WHEN TAKEN IN???

CASTROL GP 3.8L ( TAKES 4L WITH FILTER CHANGE!!! )

GASKET X 2? AGAIN WHAT FOR? NOT A SERVICE ITEM. WAS IT LEAKING OIL WHEN TAKEN IN???

OIL GEAR BOX / FINAL DRIVE 1L? GEARBOX OIL CHANGE YES BUT 0.8L. DID THEY CHANGE FINAL DRIVE OIL, IF SO WHY? 600M SERVICE ONLY.

BRAKE FLUIDS. FRONT, REAR AND COMPLETE SYSTEM.
RIGHT WHY THE **** HAVE YOU PAID FOR COMPLETE FLUID CHANGE AT 2ND YEAR?? 2ND YEAR INVOLVES FRONT AND REAR WHEEL CIRCUITS ONLY. 4TH YEAR IS ALL WHEEL AND CONTROL CIRCUITS WHICH IS WHAT YOU HAVE BEEN CHARGED.

2 DAYS BIKE HIRE. FOR A JOB WHICH HAS BEEN CHARGED AT AROUND 4HRS

TIME WISE 1.00 AW = 5 MINS.

TAKE IT BACK AND ASK QUESTIONS MATE. AND WHILE YOUR THERE GET THEM TO PUT AN EXTRA 0.2L IN YER ENGINE.

Have to agree with Foggy. You have been well and truly shafted.
To reiterate the following :
Final drive oil 07 bikes onwards - done at 1st service only
Gearbox -every 24k or 2 years
Brake fluid - intially after 1 year (only cos they think bikes may have been stored for that length of time prior to shipment. Total overkill if you ask me. Check yours prior to service current stuff is yellow in colour ) Then if you've got the servo braking system -wheel circuits every 2 years ,control every 4 years. For those of you wanting to know the difference between the 2 ,the control circuits are the ones at the lever and brake pedals ie the reservoirs you can see.
Latest ABS system every 2 years
All bikes with rubber brake lines every 1 year.
Johnny why have you paid to have the control circuits done then been charged again for the entire system ? Is this a bit of creative mathematics by the dealer.
I recommend you come up to the north for your servicing -you'd still be saving money even with petrol being what it is.

thanks for the responses guys. Really helpful. Just to re-iterate though, this was a 6K service and 2nd annual inspection. they said it needed to have its 2nd annual inspection as in theory the bike was in its second year (although only 1 year since its 600 mile service.)

Its a September 06 registered bike, but 07 spec (black colour). it has servo brakes and ABS.

I guess what I'm saying is based on the above, the final drive oil and the gearbox oil change are probably genuine, seeing as this is based on a 2 year service.

I guess the main dodgy thing on the service list is the huge amount I've been charged for changing the brake fluid. Idon't mind it being done if it has to, just want to make sure I'm not getting done.

I'll be in there again in the next week getting my brake recall done (there goes all that nice brake fluid I just paid for:)). I'll raise this all again with them then, and based on their reponse I'll name and shame on here. I'll give them a second chance to give a fair response before I post anything as I think its the right thing to do.

Fair point Johnny. Its always best to try and resolve individual situations with the dealer before slagging them on this site as so many people seem to do.
I still stand by my previous post in that you say you have an 07 spec bike aka registered 06.
New year models ie 07 start their production run in August, so if your bike is defintely 07 spec then the final drive oil is done once only at the 1st service then effectively sealed for life.
Previous to this the final drive oil wasn't touched at all. Since its about an hours job in total it might be worth checking exactly what they did do.
The brake recall's a month or so old , but you say you have servo brakes on your bike. This leads me to thinking you have an 06 spec bike not 07, as the recall is for the latest generation ABS system ( no servo) and involves the front brake pipes only.
Even so either someone's made a genuine mistake on your bill (which we can all do we're only human) or they're making their on service schedules .
Please let us know how you've gone on

Interesting Thread - good luck m8 :beerjug: Cannons 6000 mile service with 2nd Annual Service -£256. Quoted on their website.

Yes, very interesting topic. I am just passing through UK and need to have 6000m (10000km) service done on my new 12GS 2008.
North Oxford BMW quoted £240. No way it can have annual service added because the bike is just 1 month old.
Does this price feel right? Thanks!

From what I can gather, £240 seems to be fairly normal for the 6K service. Don't be put off by my story, since then I've phoned plenty of dealers who appear to be a lot more up front with costs etc.

6K in one month! Nice going:)

... 6K in one month! Nice going:)

Yes, life is too short to waste time not riding :)

Thanks for the info, I was expecting a bit less, however I am happy to pay a bit more as long I get a good service... The North Oxford BMW looked very serious to me. Hope it does a great job.:mmmm

My first service (yesterday) was £304. It's a year old and only done 4K, but the rear pads needed replacing at £50 plus labour - they recommended an upgrade pad and this advice had come from BMW - shouldn't they have been fitted from the start then?!

My 600 mile service was done at 1000miles and I had ridden carefully until then, so the pads had only had 3K of normal use.

Only had mine a few months so don't know how long a set of rear pads should last but 4K seems a bit low to me :nenau. I'm sure someone will be along in a minute to give us the sp :clap
