How often do you sync your TBs?

Hi All,

My bike feels like the TBs have gone out of sync. They were only set about 2.5k miles ago. Is that exceptional or quite common?

How often do you check/adjust your TBs?

Thanks.

I check every 3000. You can tell when they're starting to go out of sync by the increased tingling. Never managed to go 6000 without a minor tweak.

Explained my symptoms nicely:D Thanks for the reply.

It's well worth getting yourself a twinmax or something similar and doing the job yourself regularly - it only takes a few minutes and mine runs sooo much nicer when it's done....

I have a carbtune, although it seems a little loose on the stub thingys so i cant be sure of a good seal. Maybe have to zip tie it on?
I just put it on and it seems they are a couple of "lines" apart on the gauge. But, I'm going to leave it until the weekend now, as apparently the valve clearances need to be checked/adjusted first?
I found a nice write up on here about doing it, but I stupidly didnt bookmark it. I'll search it out again, but i think a summary was hook up gauges and adjust at right hand cable if neccessary? Does that sound right? My idle speed is very low too (approx 900rpm) and I need to turn that up abit. Maybe re-syncing will see that rise though?

I use a Carbtune, and very effective it is too. Maybe the ends have stretched a little on yours. Try cutting an inch off the end.

Make sure the engine is at operating temperature, and adjust the balance at idle first, using the right-hand brass idle screw. Then adjust the higher revs using the right-hand cable adjuster.

Taipan, I have a Carbtune and exactly as you say, the pipes are a little loose on the stubs. I have put a small tie wrap round the end of each pipe, not too tight, but just enuff to slip over the stub and hold it snug. You can leave the tie wraps on there.

I hadn't realised that. I thought all adjustment was done by the cable. Thnkas for pointing that out.:)

Excellent. That solves that worry.
:D

Thanks for the replies.:beerjug:

I've got PDF files showing how to do this with a Twinmax, but the procedures the same. They include pictures which make it easier.

If anyone wants them send me a mail to whatton (@) gmail.com

:)
