Just found out that my son has been file sharing music via a programe called Limeware. Is it safe and legal to share music or other files via the internet?

I seem to remember a mother was fined a hefty amount recently after her son/daughter was found doing something similar.

Everyone and their dog, cat and hamster are doing it - under 25

or even under 50 ?

its an unwritten rule - the internet is free and everything is for sharing.

Legal? Not unless he owns the copyright.

Safe. Yes, as long as you take measures to secure your computer against malicious persons. If you are running Microsoft Windows then this means updating the operating system on a regular basis, using and updating anti-virus & spyware programs and running a firewall.

The good news is that there are plenty of free programs available that will do this job for you perfectly well.

Search this forum for spyware, virus software etc recommendations.

For downloading videos and mp3 files, it's great. For programmes, most have virus's so don't download them AT ALL.
And it's not just for youngster's - we over 50's use it as well.

I have used Limewire for ages now and I find it an excellent way to obtain .mp3 music. Legal? Well.............! :thumb
