How secure is the BMW Navigator IV in its mount?

Is the locking mechanism secure enough for off road or rough conditions?

Thanks.

Don't know about the Nav mount, but the standard 660 mount does not look like it should be safe, but is. Did 400 odd miles of road round the Pyrenees last year (and lots of off road since) and never had a problem. Not safe from nicking, so tend to wipe it off into a pocket when leaving the bike un-sighted, but I guess I'm too tight to splash out on a TT locking one!

cheers

At the BMW Motorcycle Days 2010 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany this past weekend I saw the following at the Touratech Pavilion.

They also showed it at Garmin,

I have the lockable mount for the 5xx and I've discovered something "interesting", I have the Zega Pro boxes with the TT provided locks, and I can use the keys from these locks to unlock my TT lockable GPS mount. Don't think they use the whole key which means that it's not as secure as one would think.

Casper,

Interesting.

I suppose the lockable mount would provide more security from potentially losing the GPS due to vibration as well as keeping honest people honest at a fuel station while one is paying for the fuel or going to the restroom. Nothing is going to stop a determined criminal.

IME the main problem isn't the mount itself its the ram arms that you need to use to connect the cradle, this usually moves first (although this is probably a blessing if it stops the unit flying out of the cradle!)
