I had heard so much about how easy it was to work on these things (R1100GS), so when I had to get the tank ready for it's repair, I thought, no problem, take me ten minutes, like all the rest.....
.. 2 hours later.
flippin eck, finally emtied the tank, it was bad enough getting all the gizzmo's out and disconect the lines, it was getting frustrating just getting the fuel out, it almost got to the stage where I decided to give the dent a sister, but after painstakingly emptying the fuel out of the now very large hole on the side all over the garden, and scopping out what was left it was done.

Surely there is an easyier way of draining the tank completly of fuel (and water, but thats another story)?

PS is there some special tool as well to get those hose clips back on?

There is a cunning device fitted to the right hand end of the handlebar. By continuous manipulation of this, the tank mysteriously empties itself.

But only after you have turned the key thingy.

Drop your bike..

Drop your bike on its side.. like i did and watch the then full tank flow out of the overflow allover the floor under the steaming hot engine with vapour pouring up and gassing me..

I tell you what,, it empties the tank quickly.. but only if you dont get the massive adrenalin surge off the thought of explosion, which is the only way you can get the beast back up right when fully loaded..

On a more practical front,, syphon the fuel out with a larger bore hose... suck it and see as it were..;)
