How to empty the tank on 2010 R1200GSA ?

Hi,

Getting ready to fly bike home.

Anyone tell me how to pump out the petrol tank? I have a coupling (90-degree male fitting) but not 100% sure where to fit it.

Can't fin the references which show how to pump out or transfer fuel.

I don't think it will be dry no matter what, but I want to avoid syphoning if poss. There is a simple way, useful even to pump fuel into buddy's tank if needed. Just need refreshing the info...

The pump sits in the LHS tank cover. Connect a fuel line to the pump outlet and hotwire the pump. Google "ukgser fpc bypass" for wiring details. Fuel in the RHS of the tank will only move this way if you lean the bike right over. It's normally shifted across by a venturi pump on the injection return flow.

You shouldn't need a completely empty tank for airfreight. They normally allow a bit in the tank.

Think they're probably more worried about the quantity rather than the probability of ignition.

Added to the 200,000 litres or so of fuel at take on the likes of a Boeing 747, I doubt if the 22 litres you took out would have had much affect if the whole lot went up ??

I agree they might not be too worried about 22litres if the plane went down.....
They might be worried about a small fire in the hold becoming one big enough to defeat the active and passive fire protection.

Does the 1200 have a return feed to the tank like the 1150? if it does, remove the connection to the tank and run it to a container, with the engine running you will pump out the tank. It should not take long but be aware of extended running with out additional cooling, things can get a bit hot !!

Hi, there is a return pipe to the right side (sucking pump), I would need the female fitting to connect to it and I do not have it. Siphoned and hoping for the best!

Who are ypou flying with? I'm airfreighting 17 bikes out to Anchorage in June and we can have up to 1/4 of a tank and the batteries can stay connected .

Indeed - and the fact that it is petrol in the tank compared to kerosene in the aircraft.
