Added a brand new unformatted hard drive tonight to my PC.
Device manager says the thing is working correctly but it does not show up in my computer....windows doesn't seem to see it ?

Anyone got any ideas on how to format it and give it a drive letter / name ?

Go to Control panel, Administrative tools, Computer Management.

Click on Storage, Disk Management.

You should see your HD there without a drive letter. You can manipulate it from there.:beerjug:

Fergus

You could try opening 'My Computer', right click on the drive (if it's there) and select format.

ferguscawley, On a side note, ever heard of "The Rock" pub in Ireland?

Thanks Supermoto - worked a treat.

Where in Ireland is the pub called the rock ? can't honestly say I have ever heard of it.

Wraithrider - I tried what you suggested earlier - wouldn't work. Thanks anyway.

And while we are on the subject, I once got off with a girl called Bridget Murphy at a party. Do you know her?

b.t.w. Make sure you format the drive using NTFS. Much better file system than FAT32.

There's a Rock pub just outside Leenane Co Mayo, near Aasleagh Falls. Frequented by disappointed salmon anglers from Aasleagh Lodge on the Erriff River. Good music, crap grub. Used to be called The Carraig, which, amazingly, is Irish for 'rock' but it used to put the passing Americans off from calling in because they couldn't read or understand the sign outside.

Falls Rd. in Belfast, my wife's family owns it.

Anyway, glad I could help with XP question.

Have you checked that the jumper settings on the back of the drive are set to master or slave as required (if its the drive your system boots from it should be set as master, if its a second drive...slave).
