All,

Im hoping you can help me out. I've a laptop which has always had 'Chris' as the admin, and 'Lindsay' as the guest account.

After a series of attempted hacks, im now trying to downgrade my account to guest level, and have an 'Administrator' account useable only for installing programs etc.

I've been to the control panel, and clicked on users. Not there.
I've clicked on admin tools and had a look at the users, and there is a pre-made Administrator account.

So how the hell do I get Administrator to show up at logon? Im not prepared to turn the Chris account to Guest until I definately know I can get access as admin again somehow.

Help?

I take it you are talking about Windows XP.

From memory I think all you have to do is press Control-Alt-Delete together twice at the logon screen.

I sorry I cannot check as I am running Vista now

Cheers for this. Does this mean that im not supposed to see the Administrator account at logon, unless in safe mode?

Knew I could count on you guys:thumb

You can log in as any user by enabling CTRL+ALT+DELETE ......

To Enable or Disable the CTRL+ALT+DELETE Sequence
1. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click User Accounts.
2. Click the Advanced tab.
3. In the Secure logon section, select or clear the Require users to press Ctrl+Alt+Delete check box.

This was taken from.....

Also search around on the MS site for TweakUI which enables the admin account on the main login screen.

It's probably best to leave the admin account hidden if there are other peeps about the computer. Someone who wants access will always get it, but it saves most people accidentally screwing things up :thumb

Not really. If the Admin account's password protected - and it's very unlikely not to be - then it'd be difficult to accidentally screw things up. It's far better to make all the regular users - even yours as the computer owner - restricted. This makes you think twice before installing stuff (which may be dodgy) and, in the event that unauthorised access to the PC is gained through your account, the damage it can cause if your account's restricted is far less than if it was an administrator.

Anyway, back on topic... if you make the all regular users restricted access only, the administrator account magically appears on the welcome screen. It appears that at least one Admin account has to be visible on the Welcome screen. Odd, because, like tommac said, you can always get to the administrator account via CTL-ALT-DEL twice.
