Ok, in 2 years my wife and are out of here. The UK isn't for us. We are plannig a long 3 to 4 month trip, perhaps riding to Hong Kong (if we can get Chinese visas), if not Africa or South America.

We already have a GS however it is now clear that my wife should ride also, not sit on the back and take up valuable. So she needs to learn. She only has a CBT however needs to upgrade.

Anyone know what we should do. Should we get a smaller bike for starters, 125 or 250 or even a BM650. Can a smaller lady handle a GS, without years of training?

Does anyone know of a good instructor for not so good female rider? Has anyone ridden a BM650 on a long trip - 10 k plus?

Ideas, thoughts?

Ken,

I found the GS club after looking around for travelling info on motorbikes. There is the couple who went round the world ( i think they are still travelling) and the guy was part of the GS club. Simon something or rather. Well to cut a long story short ... his other half "just did it", took a bike test, went on that off road course, bought a 650GS etc.

I think their website is here . Also I am sure some of the guys here know them, so maybe good to get in touch with them for advice.

Personally I find the 1150 a better bike than the 650. The 1150 didn't break my leg!!!

Good luck mate!

Depends on the lady...

Last year I met a lovely little (as in -5ft) girl of 22 who owns a GS Dakar!

Personally, I'd let her try as many bikes as possible, although I think the 650GS would do the trick there might be something better out there for her, and with 2 years before you go you've got plenty of time to try a couple of big trips on it.

Training schools for ladies

Hi Ken, this depends on what part of London you live in but if it is North, then I couldn't recommend Focusmotorcycletraining.co.uk in Chelmsford, on the A12 Galleywood Junction. They are excellent people and the female instructor, jacquie is a gem. She really made a couple of girls feel very calm when doing their CBT and she was excellent with me for my DAS. I did my DAD with a guy that travelled up from East London because he said it was the cheapest around too. Worth a look if the area suits:

Good luck with the trip.

Just remembered!

The Globusters couple! The chap Kevin is a motorcycle instructor. They are based in Cambridge from what I remember.

This is their site I think.
