A mate of mine uses an ipod, with a 4 gig disk. He finds the volume on his system 6 Autocom too quiet (or extraneous noise too great)

Anyone any ideas how to increase the volume?

Another mate of mine just bought a cheaper imitation of an ipod and that has standard and high volume control and seems to work fine.

I bought some ear plugs with speakers built in. Expensive at £175 but ipod volume only needs to be at half or it deafens you .
alternatively if you contact autocom they can tweek it to give more output

Each individual track in iTunes has it's own volume setting (look at the Info), if you set it to max it makes a huge difference

have a look in the settings on the Ipod, I had this problem, there is a master volume control, my maximun was set at about 40% of full power..if its like mine just wind it upto max :thumb2

The volume levels will be nothing to do with the Pro-7 unless the speakers are no where near his ears so there will be a volume loss. The lack of volume will be down to the ipod as thsi has been proved running an ipod along side a cheap £4 MP3 brought from Tescos.

The latest Ipod have a similar set up to Sony units where they all run ear guard which lowers the overall volume so the young kids do not deafen themselves and sue the hell out of Sony or Apple. Some MP3 players have the option to turn this off though as I know I can on me Creative Zen MP3 player, so this might be worth a check as well

Rich, I think you mis-read my reply, I am blaming the Ipod :D
master volume control in Ipod sattings :thumb2

yes they are

I sell them for £110 :D

Seriously though, this is a good solution as it blocks out the noise you don't want to hear while playing the noise you do want straight into your ear so you don't need to crank up the volume.

I have used a boosteroo with my ZUMO to power the helmet speakers and it works well. Can't see any problems it working alongside an MP3 player. Main drawback is the battery life. If you search on google for earphone amplifiers there are some which run off 12v and could be hard wired.

How do you do that on the Zen please Rich?

Thanks,
Rich :)

On my Zen VPlus you go to System/Audio settings/Restrict volume:OFF

With this setting the Zen provides more than enough volume playing through my Active-PLUS thingy and the Autocom speakers. It is seriously good with my new Ultimate Ear monitors. :thumb2
