I recently purchased a pair of secondhand BMW panniers for my 1100GS but the owner had lost the keys. I did a bit of digging and found a nice and informative way to strip the locks and adjust them so that your existing ignition key will open and close them, it's a fifteen minute job.

Follow this link: http://www.pbase.com/rodneff/keying_bmw_locks

I tried to post this in the fountain of knowledge but I was not allowed, so Moderator, please move if you see fit.

Thanks.

broken links

This is exactly what I need to do now - but these links are both broken.

Please, can someone point me towards some knowledge for this job?

Thanks!!!

Sorry I should add more info -

It's an 1150 and they're the standard system panniers.

A link to Advrider which shows how to re-key vario panniers tells me all I need to know about the wafers - so with the 1150 it's now just a case of 'how do I remove the lock inserts so I can work on them'?

Cheers,

PG

Brian, thank you very much!

Once again, GSer to the rescue...

Just to add to the body of knowledge, I took a photo for anyone trying this in the future.

This is the magic hole where you need to probe with your paper clip. It's the small, err, paper clip shaped one! To access it you need your panniers to be locked, with the key in place.

Thanks again Brian. :beerjug:
