Several encounters with moroccan police on my visits. Two notable ones.....My wife was in a hire car behind me, me on my bike coming out of Ouazazatte. Cop steps in the road and pulls her. Says she was speeding - big fine etc. He kept telling me to get lost until he realised I was her husband at which point she might as well have disappeared. Long story short.... Wallet out and he casually picked out a new 100Dh note, put it in his shirt pocket, saluted me and said "un cadeaux pour moi" and let us go.
Next visit, south of Fes, wife, on a bike this time, she clipped a white no overtaking line about 200metres ahead of a full on police road check. This was a far more officious affair and we were made to stand in sun for ages while they processed papers - to soften us up I thought. They wanted to do us both for the same offence but I was having none of it and eventually they did me only for the wife's offence with a fine of 1500Dh. I got a receipt, a translation to English and the autograph of every officer there including a very senior looking dude. Bunch of fascists they were that time.
Otherwise it's a great place, but you can't take the piss with rules of the road.
