Can someone please give me advice on how to remove Norton once the subscription has expired. When I go to control panel add or remove programs Norton is not listed. If I disable it I just get constant reminders being flagged up. It came pre-installed on computer so is it contained within another program.

If you go to their website they even provide the information themselves:thumb2

Yes I've already installed AVG with the intention of then removing Norton, but the daily scan/update takes about an hour, is this Norton slowing it down or is this how long it should take?

I've got 3 x 300gig external H/D's plus a 80 and 160 gig internal.
Takes around 1 hour to scan that lot:eek:
Norton slowed my mates 'pooter down till he got rid of the damn programme as suggested by Redcastle and Dickie:thumb2

Sounds like some Norton stuff is still lingering. AVG is virtually un-noticeable in normal day-day use. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will be along shortly to advise! :thumb

When you install AVG it gives you the option of setting the scan to either 'High' or 'Low' priority, the low priority uses less resources than the high but takes a bit longer to scan, the high will slow your machine a tad but nothing like as much as Norton will.

After uninstalling Norton do a searh on your machine for 'Norton' and delete everything it picks up in the search, then do another search for 'Symantec' and likewise delete everything it finds again. And then empty you recycle bin, unless you want to mess about with the registry (not advisable) you will be as free as you can be from Norton/Symantec,

GETURELEGOVER.....Please post how you got on..........I'm doing the same soon, and wondered if you had any problems...........I believe that it can be a real pig to COMPLETELY get rid of Norton........

Hi jonnie comet just follow the link on post 3 by redcastle to remove Norton and then remove it from recycle bin quite straight forward just follow on screen instructions :thumb and thanks to all for help.

Just uninstalled Norton, which has always been on the computer. I always deleted cookies, images etc. using this. How do I do it now?

I have AVG & Spybot installed.

Recycle bin has changed dramatically as well, I no longer recognise it.

Err, how do I defrag now that Norton's gone?
