Need to remove my visor and chin bar to replace a screw that's fallen off my System 4, only problem is I can't remember how to do it and I've lost the manual (obviously).

Can anyone refresh my memory on how to get the chin bar and visor off?

Thanks

Dave

Remove the visor first. Open it to its maximum and then pull the visor off. Once the visor is removed, push the chin bar back and then you should be able to pull it off.

Magic, thanks Bob,

I've got both off and on inspection, it's not a screw that's come out, it's a bit that's broken off.

The glue gun's just heating up for a bodge fix and then it looks like this might be the excuse I need for an upgrade to a System 5, I've had this one for 5 years now and maybe it's time for it to retire...

Thanks again for such a quick response.

System 4

You can get replacement plates - quite cheap. The original plates are transparent and the little curved piece breaks off very easily. The replacements are black and much stronger.

Dave,

It might be worth taking a look at some of the deals BMW dealers are doing on the remaining stock of System 4's. Most are doing them for between £160-£180. Park Lane were knocking them out for £125 at their open weekend, but I think that might have been a special price for the event only. With the Sytem 5 coming in at £280, it might be worth a try, especially if you got on with the 4.

Thanks Malcom, unfortunately I've already replaced those bits, they broke off last year. The bit I'm wrestling with now is is the black plastic molding that sits on top of the chin bar holding the visor seal. It seems there's two plastic lugs that are part of the mold securing each end and one has broken off.

I think I'll give Bob's advice a try and see what deal I can get on another 4, it has worked out well for me over the years and 120 quid is always worth saving!

Thanks for the help anyhow

Dave
