My problem is: on a trip last weekend I noticed I could not change the Drive Mode from RAIN. In the car park, I left the LED spot lights on while parked up for 2 hours. Bike would not start. I used jump leads to start it from a van battery. It then showed this Error on screen:
‘Fault in the engine control. Onward journey possible. Ride carefully to next specialist workshop.’
I bought my 2018 BMW F750GS from a friend in January this year. It had been in storage for 6 years in his garage since he bought it (injury prevented him using it). It only had 180km when I got it. Now it has 2,100km.
In ‘limp home’ mode the bike drove like a Honda 50 carrying an elephant ! The throttle would not increase revs past 1,800. Max speed 30kh (downhill max 49). A cyclist overtook me!
Some reports say the throttle position sensor at the handgrip is a common failure.
Did the jump start cause a fault ? or is it caused by out of date original ECU software from 2018 ?. Can I buy an OBDI and upgrade the ECU operating system software myself. The BMW dealer wants 360€ to do it as part of a general service. All advice and tips are welcome.
