My Zumo was shutting down while following some custom routes. First make sure you are not using multiple maps on your Basecamp/Map Source. The Zumo doesn't like it when you use City Navigator 2011.20 on the computer but only have 2011.10 or vice versa on your Zumo. Delete all your old maps. Second the bloke said delete all the voices you do not need. This frees up about 120mb if you just keep the English voices. Apparently this gives the Garmin more space to think and mine is now amazingly quick on recalculating routes etc and not crashing! :thumb2

To delete voices mount your zumo and goto Garmin/voices and delete. Don't think I will need Afrikanz any time soon.

OK - I've deleted the various foreign voices.

Looking into the maps I have the following loaded via:

Tools/settings/map/map info

CN Europe NT 2011.40 3D
CN Europe 2010.10
[1] NEWSCASTLE UPON TYNE, ENGLAND
CN Europe NT 2011.40
[1] ALL

I have un-checked the 2010 version.

Question - how can I delete it

How did you do the last update? Via the on-line updater direct to your Zumo? Have you previously written any map tiles to the Zumo by selecting the tile and using 'send to device' in Mapsource. It looks like the 2010.10 mapping is just one tile (NEWSCASTLE UPON TYNE, ENGLAND). I wouldn't really worry about it, it's only about 10MB. Just leave it un-checked.

If you really want rid of it then, assuming that you did load it using 'send to device', you'll need to delete your gmapsupp.img file off the Zumo, best to back it up to your PC first though.

The [1] 's are sub titles from the previous heading.

All downloaded on line - I bought the life time update and downloaded the 2011 version.

Had a look at the gsmapsupp's and got scared

Unchecked it is :thumb2

On the Mac I just went to MapManager and uninstall those versions other than the latest. But the aforementioned procedure is for the computer and not the actual Garmin. I only have my map version 2011.20 I would have suspected that you would only need 2011.40 3D and CN Europe NT 2011.40. Probably worth given Garmin a call because I don't want to tell you to delete something and then not have the unit work. Worth reporting back since those old maps are only taking up space on your unit. I use Webupdate and MyGarmin to keep my maps current.

Cool tip, I will try this. I absolutely never ever use the sound capabilities of my Zumo for anything other than Mp3s as a camp radio. In fact, it's set to "Mute" 90% of the time. Does anyone know whether it will get its knickers in a twist if I delete all voices?

I can't find Garmin / Voices on my 660 - can you tell us the full menu sequence?
Have tried it mounted on the bike, and while plugged in to the puter I can't get anything on the screen apart from the "information mode" icon.

Cheers,

Neil.

Feeling a bit thick on this gentlemen - I have the maps updated to 2012.40 3D and the2012.40 [1] Western Europe but still have a 2011.30 for Brussels etc. on the 660.
Still cant see how to remove that via the Mac.
Plenty variations on updating the maps but bewildered as to how to remove that one. It keeps flagging up messages that the map is over a year old and should be updated.
Help!

Sorry are you trying to get the map off your computer or the Zumo?

If your current mapping was done the official way as an update from Garmin then it sounds to me like you have the old mapping in a supplementary mapping file (GMAPSUPP.IMG). Connect you Zumo to your Mac and open the drives that it creates, if you have an SD card in the GPS you'll have two, otherwise only one. Within these two drives there should be a folder called Garmin (not always on the SD card). Inside one of these there will be a bunch of files. Copy all files named GMAPSUPP (there may be a few with different extensions) to your hard drive and then delete them. As you're on a Mac you'll need to now empty your trash. Disconnect the Zumo from your Mac and check if the old mapping has gone.

Good tip.
I guess you can delete all the HELP files on the Garmin, just leave the English file

Thanks guys. Yes NLC it was left in the Zumo.
Bumpkin - yes a straightforward ctrl and "move to trash" after clicking on the Garmin (as it appears as an external drive) moved that and it's gone from the Zumo.
How/why just Belgium appeared in there I dunno. Yes, all the maps have arrived by the lifetime update method.

As it was in a GMAPSUPP.IMG file then you probably loaded it using MapInstall, this creates the file above. This is named by some random tile within the set as far as I can see, hence why Belgium featured. Could have been the name of any tile in the set being loaded.

GMAPPROM.IMG, which is the same format as GMAPSUPP.IMG but named differently, contains your primary mapping. The latter is replaced by the on-line update process.

The above ensures that adding mapping using MapInstall. or Mapsource on a PC, doesn't overwrite your primary mapping.
