I'm having a little trouble getting my new 1150gsa onto its center stand.
I've not had a center stand since m scooter days, so can someone advise of the proper technique for getting such a large bike onto the stand. I'm only 10stone so cant seam to muscle it up!

Push down hard on the centre-stand lever, whilst pulling up and back using the frame above the rear footrest.

Don't pull on the left handgrip, or you risk damaging the heated grip element.

stand

the trick is to let your own body weight do the work
left leg on the stand right arm at the back of the frame by the rear foot rest near where the panniers fasten not too low down left arm on the handle bars
lift gently on your right arm using your body weight to swing it onto the stand hope this makes sense

"Praise the lord and pass the Ammunition"

pretty much as above, except...

use your right foot on the centre stand not your left. reason being that if the bike was to roll forward there is an increased risk of you tripping over youself if you use the left. hope that makes sense.

It really is all about technique, not brute strength. The lads have already described how to postion yourself with the bike, but just to break it down, and sorry if this is a simpleton approach but it works for new learners...

1) with bike on side stand stand facing it:rolleyes:and take hold of the left hand grip
2) (this is easier without panniers fitted) take hold of the frame just above the pillion footpeg, as mentioned above...alternatively hold the pillion grab handle if panniers ae fitted
3) locate the centre stand foot bar with your right foot and push it towards the floor. When it touches slowly raise the bike until both sides are in contact with the deck. (I have seen many people struggle with a centre because it was only touching on one side:blast)
4) finally, and this is were technique comes into it, in one swift movement push your body weight down through your leg and gently lift and guide with your right arm. If you're doing it right then arm work should be minimal

I've found my 1150GS to be the easiest bike I've ever owned to get onto the centre stand.Firm downward pressure on the stand with my right foot and hardly any lifting effort and it's job done.Mind you,I'm 6'7" and 19 stone or thereabouts..

Centre stand

It does help to fit a lifting handle thto thwe rear frame, I was going to make one but wunderlich make one if you have probs. get one they do help.

Try whilst on the bike still...

Balance carefully.
Left foot on centre stand, touch it down (only on even ground!)
Right foot stays on the right footpeg
Hold front brake and pull handlebars towards you, shifting as much weight backwards as poss.
It may take a couple of heaves, but generally comes up ok.
Keeping the fornt brake on will stop it rolling all the way forward if you don't manage it in one heave.
Its harder with a full tank of petrol!

Serious question, is the above even possible ? Let alone for a man who's only 10 stone.

Edit: I tried it and can't manage it. 17st. :o

+1 6ft tall 13.5st works for me easily, fully loaded takes a bit more grunt & confirmation that ground is something like level, done it with a spreader plate on soft campsite ground many times, having said that the only time I have let it slip from my grasp was on a campsite albeit very gracefully, embarassing to say the least, amazing where you find the strength to hoist the beast upright with twenty caravanners watching you.

Centre stands

Make sure the bike is NOT IN GEAR as it is then impossible (without pulling in the clutch obviously). make sure both legs of the stand are touching the deck.

+1, works for me, even when the bike is loaded. 5ft8ins 11st weakling:D but at 2, I only use the frame loop that the pillion footrest hangs off, never used the grab rail.

Yep, definitely possible. I'm 6'2" and weigh about 90Kg (whatever that is in stones!)
