How would you get this off ??

Is there such a thing then as a 20mm dia cutting disc that is held in a tool that resembles the front end of a bike - the wheel between forks? If there is I will buy it right now!

I hope you weren't thinking of a standard sized disc , as used in a Bosch type grinder!

I assumed that the normal use of a quality hydraulic puller and plenty of easing oil had failed.
I would prefer to use a 50mm x 1mm slitting disc in a 90 degree die grinder.
but a 1mm Klingspor slitting disc in a 4" grinder would be fine if you have access. A 1.5mm disc would generate too much heat.
As said I assumed normal avenues had been tried and the sprocket was being discarded.
Meanwhile off to Bottesford Egg Run with my shaft drive.:)

127 times more work than is required. :D Heat and hammering should not be discounted: It depends upon what tools you have.

Geezers have been dealing with rusty gear sprockets for over 300 years so don't be put off when using simple methods.

"127 times more work" This method takes minutes.

Yep geezers also new that a Massey Ferguson 625 header drive sprocket & shaft would take a lot more abuse than a BMW output shaft and seals. :D

Could be.
I have 4 shaft drives that I wear a helmet on.
1000, 1200, 1600 and 3600cc.
But I reckon it will be the trusty 1200 today.

DO NOT HEAT IT UP!!

I've never removed a front sprocket from an 800 but I'm fairly confident that there'll be an oil seal on just behind that sprocket .......... You don't want to melt that now do you! :thumb

You can heat it up! A temperature increase of around 50 to 65 degc will be fine. What temp do you think the oil runs at inside the bike in seals and bearings?

I agree a tempreture increase can make all the difference.

I think the worry was "use a bit of heat" thinking heat gun and come back to find them using a 1inch pepperpot nozle on the Oxy- Propane.
It happens :blast

Well what can I say, I thought I would get a couple of replies and maybe a few pizz takings for no owning a proper GS.
First off, THANKYOU to everyone, Dare I say it, your all pure tossers..
