From proffessional stunt rider Christian Pfeiffer personal log:

3rd place at the European Hillclimbing Championships in Switzerland

Hillclimbing - steep and deep! It's about climbing an almost impossible steep hill by motorbike. Whoever gets up highest is the winner.

As a surprise to everyone, I've made it with up to the podium on the new BMW HP2 2 Cylinder Boxer Enduro at this hillclimbing-competition in Obersaxen, Switzerland, last weekend. I guess this must have been the first ever BMW to enter a hillclimbing competition, since usually light, strong single cylinder bikes with about 500 cc are the weapon of choice and success in hillclimbing.

After successfully participating with my BMW in some "regular" offroad events over the past few weeks, the plan to enter this hillclimb championships came up: this bike builds up enormous traction and the raw power of 105 HP is something else of high importance in this particular discipline. So I thought "let's go there and give it a try", and indeed, it proved the HP2 to be a truly tremendous climber.

The firstly sceptical views of some spectators and participants onto my boxer-bike quickly turned into huge interest and respect, when I managed to get up 203,4 meters in qualifying and 208,6 meters in the semi finals on the hill with steepness of up to 141%. This has even exceeded the so far highest ever reached mark of 206,2 meters of previous years! Even higher than that came German hillclimbing specialist Lars Nonn on a 2 wheel driven Yamaha, so I ended up second in the semis and third in the finals, which also have been won by Lars.

The event has been perfectly organized, there were a couple of thousand spectators on site and I had great fun. On the contrary to some other hillclimbing-events, the focus has been primarily on the sport side of things and on getting up highest, rather than falling down lowest: the hill has been prefectly selected, prepared and secured. I'll be back next year and I do want to make it all up to the top on 235,1 meters. More infos on this event: Click www.hillclimbing.ch

Maybe even better next year then? :thumb

Superb fun to watch on the box...not nearly enough on though considering it's a perfect spectator sport.

Wouldn't want to do it on me own metal though
