Hi Guys,

The battery on the old MM is losing it's will to live, does anyone have a part number for the official BMW upgraded replacement ?

It's still under warranty, but I don't want another standard battery if at all possible.

Thanks

If you want a same size upgrade get the Yuasa YTZ14S

Thanks for the quick reply, is the '14' the exact same physical size ?

From my small 'pea sized' brain, I thought the important thing with batteries was the cold cranking amps, that's why the famous Odyssey's seem to be everyones favourite.

I suspect that there are loads of threads on this topic, but all I could do with is a common sense answer that's all. Like 'what you need is.........'

The silly thing is all I want is a reliable battery, one that's not going to give up the ghost in another 6 months, I would even, possibly anyway, be happy to pay the difference to upgrade if I had to as long as I knew what to change to.

I suppose the sensible thing to do would be to rely on the services of a trickle charger, but to my mind I would be worried that they may mask a problem. With my luck the damn problem would resurface down in Spain or somewhere else like that leaving me stuck.

I rode my bike for nearly two years with the standard battery, it went on the trickle charger over weekends and that was it. But the moment it was left not charged/ridden for two weeks the battery would be dead. Subsequently fitted the odyssey and to be honest even with aftermarket heated grips full on etc it cranks over every time first time. I still stick it on the trickle charger over a weekend just out of routine :thumb2

My first battery died soon as I bought the bike as the bike was hardly used. I got a new one under warranty and used my BMW optimiser thing and its always bursts straight into life. Think they are a worthwhile purchase and easy to just plug in everytime you get home after your ride.
Worst thing you can do to a battery is not use it.

The HP2E is on it's 3rd and lives on Optimate. Put the bike out side for the night with out charge and it won't start....
Put it on the truck to bring it home from SBW, it started. got home in the cold this 1 hour later it not start peeps.... BMW SHIT HOUSEN :augie

My problem with the Odysseys is the Weight:
PC545 5.4KG
PC535 5.7KG

Compared to the Yuasa YTZ14S at 3.9KG

Battery type: Sealed maintenance-free battery
Dimensions: 150mm x 87mm x 110mm
Capacity rating: 11.2Ah
Cold-start performance: 230EN
Maximum charging rate: 1.5 Amp

Remember your roots its a light weight Enduro bike:thumb when its time to change I will be looking at the Yuasa, if it fails to turn the bike over it'll go back to whence it came:eek

is that weight going to afect anything

It is not only the weight to consider (I am not saying do not go Odyssey way mind) but that you will need to remove the rear shock everytime you want or need to get it in or out ... ie it is not a straight same size swop - would also need fabricate new securing bracket.. All things going well the battery may not need to come out for 5-10 years but then some have had off the sheof failures from odyssey as well... would hate to fit one and then a few weeks later have to drop shock etc again... for me a pain anyway as have the Markus tank fitted and space a premium. In case you did not know the OEM battery goes in from the top on its side and is then rotated through 180 degrees to seat it ... no ways you get anything bigger than the OEM size in there that way to the best of my knowledge. The Yuasa YTZ14sS is the exact same size as the BMW Exide ETZ12BS shite battery! (oh and is the same is is fitted to KTM SE's just by the way :D)

Hi,

I had mine replaced by model :

EXIDE ETZ 12 BS (hope not Bull Sh...) :D

Ref number : 61 217 653 523

Not by it's self Molly..but add wheels, hubs, exhaust, etc into the equation it all adds up to a lighter bike and for an unfit FB like me it all helps!!:D

HP2MM in a Lock-Up with no Electric so no Optimate. Not used the Beast since early December, went to it today and, , , , , , , CLICK .. .. CLICK :blast. Push it round to the House, into the front Garden. Extension Lead out of the Upstairs Window, hook the Charger onto the Battery and hit the switch. Yellow Light only,so only " Lightly Discharged" . Left it on for the afternoon (6hrs) and once the Green Light had been on for a while,i took the Charger off. Back round to the Lock-Up,Key in and BOOM. 1st Time Fire Up :D. Let it run till properly warm, then put it away. :( Warranty up soon,so i'll keep a check on the Battery between now and then.

I'll be glad when the Weather Picks Up.

HP2E with 3 year old Odyssey.
Never been on trickle charge.
Mixture of holidays, bad back and cold weather meant bike hadn't been run for over a month.
Fired up first touch of the button yesterday. :clap

hp2 battery

I had the stock battery in my hp2 for three years when the time came for a new one I put in the ytz14s slightly more power unit. Not one problem. Richard

hang on guys lets face it the std battery is shit change to an odesy they are the best end of storey

How are you guys securing the Odessey? New bracket using top brass bushed hole? (and dropping shock I guess to get it in)

With a bit of fiddling I managed to get the original bracket to work still. Been in there couple of months now with no problem :thumb2

Can't remember but there was two holes on the bracket and I just moved it up a bit to go into the second one :comfort

Yeah I noticed there were two holes when fitting the Yuasa the other day and wondered if it may work for the Odyssey (the part is probably used on the other GS's as well so covering both bases ... holes). I got the Yuasa for free so testing it out ... seems much better than the Exide but when it goes south I will more than likely spring for the Odyssey/Genesis.

I fitted a PC5454 (with a few simple 'mods') to my bike after the std battery got sick. I was away touring when it died, and couldn't push start the b*astard to fire it up, even with 2 big strong volunteers helping. The new battery has never even hesitated to fire up the motor. I figure riding a 1,5kg heavier bike is better than pushing a 1,5kg lighter bike a long way to find a steep hill to bump start it
:D
