hp2 battery up-grade

How are you guys securing the Odessey?
The standard GS battery strap.

Just needs 5mm soft packing on the top.

I fitted a PC5454 (with a few simple 'mods') to my bike after the std battery got sick. I was away touring when it died, and couldn't push start the b*astard to fire it up, even with 2 big strong volunteers helping. The new battery has never even hesitated to fire up the motor. I figure riding a 1,5kg heavier bike is better than pushing a 1,5kg lighter bike a long way to find a steep hill to bump start it
:D

Fair play.. on a touring bike:augie
But have still gone for a Yuasa YTZ14S from Cambridge Motorcycles at £65. Felt it would be safer than getting a Fake from Ebay:eek:

Will fit it a the weekend and see what happens in the cold weather:mmmm

I have the ytz14s in my bike and it took about five minutes to install. Take off wires flip on it's side and remove. Reverse for install. Works great and costs almost nothing. Have fun. Richard

I have a new Odyssey PC545 that is surplus to requirements if anybody is interested :thumb2

ETZ 12BS BATTERY PROBLEM

It is not only the weight to consider (I am not saying do not go Odyssey way mind) but that you will need to remove the rear shock everytime you want or need to get it in or out ... ie it is not a straight same size swop - would also need fabricate new securing bracket.. All things going well the battery may not need to come out for 5-10 years but then some have had off the sheof failures from odyssey as well... would hate to fit one and then a few weeks later have to drop shock etc again... for me a pain anyway as have the Markus tank fitted and space a premium. In case you did not know the OEM battery goes in from the top on its side and is then rotated through 180 degrees to seat it ... no ways you get anything bigger than the OEM size in there that way to the best of my knowledge. The Yuasa YTZ14sS is the exact same size as the BMW Exide ETZ12BS shite battery! (oh and is the same is is fitted to KTM SE's just by the way :D)
I have a problem with the HP2 Sport (road bike) and this seems to be the answer but just one question, why replace with the 14s and not the YTZ 12s.
Thanks
G

Because it has a slightly higher Amp rating, meaning it can hold more charge?

Hp2 battery

OK I'm talking HP2s but having been through all of these ...and the bikes only done 2000 miles so yes this an infrequent use story......just buy the odyssey and forget the issue......really. Steve

PS

I forgot to say you need to switch the wiring routing a bit as the terminals are the opposite way around...took me a half day to do it but never looked back (:-))
