Definately soft luggage IMHO for the HP2 - are alot of options out there. maybe start looking at Oxford being in the UK, then BMW, there is Wolfman in USA, Dirtbagz, etc etc. I personally use a BMW Large Sports Bag - about 55 litres and shaped to fit the seat and clips on and off very easily. Used it first on my ADV and now on the HP. Very good if you are going to travel abroad with it as it is basically a tote - has handles that zip away, is waterproof etc, and is very well designed and made. Plenty big enough for one guy and you can still strap a tent etc on top.

See this link for a few pics of it on my HP2 (and other mods):

HP2 Luggage!

I'm using the Touratech 29/35 litre Zega panniers with 3x2 litre Touratech fuel cannisters on them for longer trips.

The extra fuel is great and increases the range considerably to over 170 miles but to be honest they are a pain in the arse to take on and off and then refell due to the small spout. I carry a small funnel just for this. I use the panniers with the Touratech Tankbag and expandable Touratech Tailpack for the HP2.

I also have but have never used the Touratech Zegatex Soft luggage system(TT part no 055-1255) which has a capacity of 80/58 litres and can carry two 5 litre fuel cans in the lower compartment and the rest of my gear in a seperate expandable upper compartment aswell as having a cargo net and tie down points on the top of the bag.

I'm very tempted to use the Zegatex on my next trip as it fits the bike very well and the extra 10 litres of easily accessable fuel would be fantastic giving a range of over 210 miles.

Big Dom, I know the BMW bag you mention, do you not find that the crotch is too wide? What/how do you secure it to the seat for off-road riding?

I use the XL ortlieb drybag and tankbag on the HP2

buffalo "get away" panniers 60ltr £55
Large 89lts ortlieb rack bag £50
Held tail bag for oil skins and excelent everyday bag when you dump your stuff 15ltr £30 (a bargain!)
Famsa tank bag about 15 ltr also £100 (couldnt be without this now, brilliant)
Total about 180 litres, stable and very cheap.

Good point and I was a bit worried that this may be the case when I first transfrred it to my HP2 but have found that it works great and if one wants you can add a strip of high density rubber foam in the 'crotch' - this both reduces the diameter but also has the added advantage of cushioning and preventing chaffing/scratches etc. I also have used extra tie-downs (in addition to the 4 standard integrated ones) if really rough terrain as extra precaution againt it shifting. So far worked great.

looks tidy in the flesh, quite stable enough, wouldnt trust it off road tho!

once the camping gears all off you have 2 handy bags.
The Held bag is expandable and fits the rear perfectly. It comes with a waterproof cover too.

I was a bit worried the panniers might touch the exhaust so I made a simple steel bracked to keep the panniers from sagging.
Only 2 original fixings and is taken off in seconds.

For those making or considering brackets the best position to use are the two
6mm bolts that hold the rear frame to the tailpiece. Here you are geeting strong mounting points to the steel tunular frame. Also note that the tailpiece and rack is notoriously weak in terms of being able to take anything more than a small tailbag. When modding it for my numberplate (eliminating the indicator cluster etc) I discovered that it is made of aluminium and is in fact an engineering work of art BUT at the end of the day the alu is tensile weak.

Hi there, just another contribution this time from Portugal:beerjug:

I use one touratech kit but I modified the rack, I have 2 x 35L Zega cases
I gain some space in the exaust pipe area using one akrapovic.

To transport fuel, and after a lot of investigation I decided for the HPN Tank

I'm very happy with all, 6000kms in 15 days with no worrys

here some picks from the Zegas modified

Hi Carlos,

Can you explain what modification you have made to the rack or show me a photo?

I couldn't see any reason why I couldn't use a 35/41 litre pannier set as long I kept below the weight limit except that Touratech wouldn't sell me a rack on its own or with alternative panniers to the 29/35 litre set..........!

Great versatility with hard panniers for touring and commuting and then strap soft bags like Kriega 20s for serious off-road work

rev pack pics

I am getting ready to go on a long ride and will post some pics in a day or so. I will be using the smaller jr pack instead of the excursion pack as I will not be camping on this trip so no tent or sleeping bag. Richard .... Going on the 100,000 ft ride. 100,000 ft of elevation change in one ride. Have fun.
