HP2 Highest Mileage/Breakages?

Zwervers Panniers!

Hi Zwerver, any chance of some photos of your pannier set up and other mods you have made to your bike for your Iceland trip?

Thanks FP.:thumb

I've had a few problems with the forks - new bushes, new lowers then new leg! Probably time to check them again :D

Yep.......play in both legs detected. So, it's in on Friday for assesment.

Will they be replaced by the same items again, or have BWM sneakily done a redesign?

Mine is ill. Very very ill. Its just been recovered home.

Now this. Internal bleeding

:(

hp2 problems

I have just under 16,000 miles on mine and the only problem is I have to work instead of ride. I have both sets of wheels and have used both. I like the off road set. I just love the dirt bike style of riding. I have done some long distance off road riding -100 mile rides. I am currently getting ready for a 4000 mile + plus on road ride again. Once the battery let me down , all I had to do was charge it. No leak or fork problems yet. I do not let my bike sit, I ride all the time and I think that helps. Have fun.

10,500 miles - fault report

I have just done 1000 miles over the bank holiday weekend crusing at 80-90 mph is so much fun..,

just over 10,000 miles on the clock

and I according to the Dealer I have a output shaft oil leak and a final drive oil leak.

both will be fixed under warranty in couple of weeks.

Battery just made it through the winter..!

I think there may be some play on the forks but not sure yet ..

other than that I just have to stop every 140 miles to fill up..

---

have both set of wheels but most miles done on the street set up..

Well its about time I gave my update as I am up to 4500 miles now.

Forks which seem weak point are okay, and basically no problems apart from the battery. It fails if I use it regularly but even when I do it can fail without any notice. Only 2 weeks ago when heading down to BAskerville I had been out every day enjoying the sunshine but on the Friday when riding down completely flat for no reason what so ever. I had to jump start it from the car. I must get round to fitting the oddessey battery I have.

Rear air shock can also loose a little air over time but no big deal as its months rather than weeks. I have changed that for an Ohlin and to be honest its much better on the road but I cant tell any difference off road which will be due to my general lack of fitness and the fact I am a crap rider. It also raised the seat hiegt enough for me to purchase a step ladder:eek::eek:

Is it fun - Oh yes. Very fast with interesting front end fork dive. You could easily use it as an every day bike but for 2 up the 1150's a far superior bike. (in fact I think its a far superior bike full stop). I still think the HP2 over complex for what it is supposed to be used for - or should that read what people think it should be used for:rolleyes:.

Prices have stabilized and there are some good used buys now and again. It looks just so mean and nasty with the road wheels on and you can really turn it on down the lanes too.

Is it any good off road - Its amazing where it can go but the back wheel spins so easy due to the power. The weight can still be an issue and a smaller pogo is far more suitable than the HP2.

Buying an bike is like buying a screwdriver. You have many different types for different jobs. The HP2 excels in one particular job where the 1150 excels in another and a Honda Goldwing excels in another. There is no single perfect bike just that some bikes are particularly good in certain areas. I would like to take my HP2 down to Morocco where I think it would be at home but then we have the issue of the small tank:o

Have Fun

AndyT

Mine's now on 24.000km, and last winter the smaller problems started..

- 3rd battery now since jan
- sidestand completely replaced
- sidestand switch replaced twice, now diconnected it
- front break pump replaced (riding through the Ardennes back home without a front break was kind of scary)

Mine is on about 9200 miles and taking into account I have had it an year and did not use it from December until mid March during the winter.

600 Miles
So far had the exhuast replaced after BMW dropped it on a service - thanks :thumb2 the Acro is very nice and the original pipe with the little scratch on certainly useable :D

6000 Miles
The left indicator mechanism failed after the winter riding in a heavy down pour for a couple of hours, it would go on and off by itself :eek

Fuel light stopped working, and then started working again after they fixed the indicator thingy

8500 Miles
Filled up with 400ml oil after riding the crap out of it for a couple of weeks :bow

9250 Miles

Can you believe the price of fuel :spitfire

Last May when I got it paid £0.93 per liter compared to the £1.13 this Monday :blast

Besides that brilliant bike, scary at the best of times but love it to bits :beerjug:

9204 miles.

Forks.
Sidestand switch
Fuel pump.
Drive shaft cover.
Timing cover.
Battery.

and now........

RHS piston has a hole so big you can see the crank. Both valves have disintegrated. Spark plugs are the same. All the ensuing mess sucked up through the exhaust.

" years and 2 months old. Full dealer history. Never been off road.

(I'm sure it will sort itself out!:hide)

OUCH!:thedummy

Mine

Bought it with 2000km on it, 1 clutch replacement (apparently)

On 9500km the RH cylynder broke a valve, moer of a big bang - replaced under warranty.

Now on 12 500 Km and just replaced the battery, was my own fault i stuffed up the GPS wiring.

Oh and PLENTY rear tyres!

HP2 ROCKS :bounce1:bounce1:bounce1

Mine on nearly 24000Miles

...I hasten to add, these were not put on by me. I'm off to the Alps on the 16th so i hope that it lasts the pace. Mine does have a 1200 GS battery on it so hopefully that will help...and it's under warranty!

Coming up on 20,000 miles (17k by me since August) - has been abused as commuter, 2 up tourer and a some off-roading :augie

Warranty work so far:

RHS indicator switch
Air bubble in clutch fluid - fixed with replaced slave cylinder
New FD (Although I think they were being extra cautious...)
Front cover replaced
Ignition switch

I've managed to break:
One puig fairing
One headlight
Sheared one of the crash bar mounting bolts in the engine casing
A couple wing mirror bolts
And a lot of tyres!

I love this bike!

Nope, no knew forks for me. You need the Dr Shox treatment - they re-instate the forks to the way that Marzochi would sell them with both damping and rebound cartridges in both legs  This work does breach the warranty on them tho.

I am starting to wonder if my head bearings are starting to go tho... :(
