the breakdown was due to a known fault - which will be rectified. The sidestand cut-out switch is a known weak spot on the bike. BMW refused to give me instructions on how to bypass it to get me going again, mainly due to "liability reasons".
I'll do a search because I know this work-aruond has been already shown somewhere on this website.
Apart from the stand cut-out problem, the bike went exceptionally well, and met all expectations.
I mean, riding an HP2 for 4300km is not what it was primarily designed for.
Some minor mods as I'm doing to it now will make it more transport-section friendly
I also have a tricked-up XR400 with a spare Acerbis 23L tank to join the HP2 in the shed, so I reckon I have all non-competitive offroad riding bases covered.

Well done Beachman.
I got rid of my first wife because after repeated instruction, she could not make toast properly. Everything else she done was fine.
My new one is fat and ugly (Louise ..this is an analogy, dont take it personally) but she makes good toast.
