I have heard now from a couple of HP2 owners that there is a recent software update that essentially detunes the HP2 ... yes kinda castrates it somewhat so that it is more reliable and so BMW has less warranty claims??? Anyone know about this?

I service my bike self and unless this software update can sort out the front forks won't be getting that then :D

Well so do I at present ... but pray tell how do you set your stepper motors for example???

Can't set those but then again how many times do you need to set them :nenau

Jim Von Baden did a throttle body sync on his 1200 with pictures and instructions, can't see that you would need to do more than this after adjusting the valves in any event.....I could be totally wrong though :D

Is true, yes, in RSA at least, where a lot of the engine failures have taken place, worst thing about it is that the dealer will do it and that it is irreversable. but do not fear Big Dom, a couple of us in RSA are looking at developing a new CPU for the HP2 that will hopefully sort out the running lean issue (main reliability issue here) and still leave us with our 105HP playthings!

wont a power commander and a dyno run do this?

My Wonderlick PC does this already. I will just opt not to have the software upgrade.

Basically yes - really only for idle issues and I unplug them anyway to do the sync with my Twinmax.

So far no one was given an option, BMW dealeships just do it, speak to your dealer and ask him if they can not do it, but then if something does happen Germany will not honour your warranty as you went against what they said.

My bike is out of warranty and won't see the inside of a BMW dealership again.

Much the same mate - even though it only has 3000km on the clock! (bought it with 2030km but a 2006 model). Will avoid the software (sloppy cock) upgrade :D

FWIW, my HP2 MM was in for service at the dealer yesterday (one year old, still in warranty). They didn't carry out any software updates on the bike.

Don't know whether the above posts just apply to the E models, but seems a bit strange to me as the vast majority are now out of warranty anyway.
