Thanks Chispitas, i feel sort of 16 all over again in anticipation!! As you say need some decent weather now to enjoy. I am going down to Spain again this summer to Cambrils, just south of Barcelona, probably take the GSA but i know the roads would be awsome on the HP2, your one lucky fecka able to use those roads and enjoy such great weather...
I am tempted for sure, but really dont like rucksacks and to be honest tank bags either...lol! Just heard from jeffries this morning that its arrived and planning delivery early next week! I really cant wait!!
I picked up a set of CF Handguards for my HP2MM at Pidcocks today.There were 2 S1000s in the Showroom. 1 will be put on the Road in Feb ? 2010 as their Demonstrator and has had a load of extras put on it; ABS,Akrapovic Can,BMW Sport Paint,CF Belly Pan and other bits. Looks Gorgeous

bmconvert, I think what has already been said sums up the differences of the two bikes. One is a ripraw sawing machine that is produced to take some of the SS dollars away from Japan and into German coffers, If you were to get one, you may well be inclined to get the up-rated one in 12 months time. The HP2 is more like the Ducati 916, or KTM sportsbike, or MV, its more of a keeper, it has a soul.
OK it may not be as fast on track days, but then how many of us can ride to the full potential of our bikes anyway?
2 very different bikes, I guess the question is exotic and rare or butt openingly fast. Lets face it if, as Bike predicts, the 1000/4 is better than the R1... then you will be one of a very big group, first scrambling to get one then tearing up the countryside on it.
Whatever you choose, you will be the envy of most on here.

and come July Box Hill will be full of the new 1000RR's and still only a couple of HP2s if that many.

Went up to Peterborough on Saturday and had a look at the new S1000RR
They even allowed me to sit on it
Looks nice and all that but there are no sticky out bits on the side and I mean who needs all that power really
The best part of the day for me was riding back on my mates 1200GS that's done over 100k miles

Would love to park a HP2S next to the Megamoto in the garage. Have looked around the S1000RR a few times now at various shows, and like all of the Jap 4's it's designed to emulate, it just leaves me a bit cold. I just prefer something that stirs my soul a little bit more.

Ditto that here too, the s1000RR is an insanely capable bike, but what its capable of just isn't something I care to do at this point in my life.
I spoke to Nate Kern at the LB Bike show at length about the three BMW sport bikes, S1000RR/HP2S/R1200S. He has ridden all three a lot, and said that the RR is on a whole nother planet of performance, and it is the most incredible sport bike he has ever ridden, but the only place you'd ever be able to reach for its ability is at the track. In the real world ( punching out of corners, B class roads etc etc ) the HP2S would murder the S1000rr...but as said above..( almost 
) on any A or M roads the S1000RR will be the King.

Well, I`m obviously a sucker for the latest toy, I loved the HP2 sport when I saw it at the NEC last year, thought the quality of the components was fantastic, never got to ride one though and couldn`t afford/find one at the right price anyway.
Now, my money is on the acid green S1000RR, I prefer the design and look forward to the performance (even though it will be wasted on me) If I was sensible I would stick with the GS (though will be keeping it) or be ultrasafe and stick with a tin box.

Not seen the thou yet but I was in Chester Motorrad about a month ago and they had an HP2s unregistered awaiting collection by its new owner. It truly was exquisite Loved it
