what do youse of the hp2e riders recommend? i was out for the first time off road on my bike sunday, and apart from almost being creamed by a stag, I think it prudent to fit some protection to the cyclinder heads.
i would like to keep it relatively light. any advice /info greatly appreciated.
:aidan

I use the OEM plastic ones in preference to the TT ones that were on my bike when I bought it - I prefer the extra protection they give the upper valve covers, TPS etc (the TT TPS protector dug into my leg!). I then also have the TT bars that take most of the impact if required. This combo works for me so far.

I use the TT guards.

Drops to both left and right have sheared off the lower mount bolts (taking some cylinder head away with it).

A hard collision to the RHS also holed the head cover. Whether the TT guard prevented further damage I can't say.

overkill? , guards and bars?

thanks for your recommendations. would the cylinder guard and crash bars be over kill?

i dont use anything they get bloced up crap add weight ,if you drop it with the plastic ones ,they can break off the lugs on the head.

I added some protective stuff on my bike and might not be usefull for others weight wise but it makes me sleep easy at night :D

Hyde frame protectors

Diff Protector, I like this more for the fact if the bike slides down the road on the bevel drive than rocks hitting it from the bottom

Crash Bars from Holan in Poland, as you can see already been put to good use :evil

Pretty sturdy handguards, only cost me £20 from a moto-x store :clap

IMHO no - the guards themselves whether OEM plastic or TT alu will suffer with any fall and esp the TT or other solid head guards will run the risk of breaking off the studs on the heads (an expensive fix)... less so the platic ones as they give themselves at the mountings before the studs. But if either are combined with good crash bars like the TT (and the Holans klook like a good copy) then the initial and hardest impact is taken by them ... and they are way stronger than any head guard alone.

i have ordered the Holan bars and a headlight protector and I am considering some of the other bits. many thanks for you help.I like the "Diff protector" that Mav has , any ideas as to where you can order "Hyde" stuff?

.........and since then further skirmishes have left the TT guards badly bent and difficult to position, and not offering any real protection.
So I've returned to the standard plastic guards together with Wunderlich bars (fitted today).

I'll report on the effectiveness of this set up soon no doubt :blast

I've got the Touratech cylinder protectors on mine and no issues so far but I agree that an awkward fall can shear the mountings off. I was thinking about fitting the Touratech engine bars for added protection aswell.

I use the original plastic headlight protector along with the Wunderlich Rallye screen for headlight, I had to take the Touratech perspex protector off when I fitted the Wunderlich screen.

The rear of the bike is protected by the Touratech panniers or the stainless pannier racks which are strong.

FP.

since I've crash mine more than I've ridden it....:blast

I've got the wunderlich engine bars, TT head guards and a TT engine plate.

all now perfectly scratched to hell.... well worth the money considering my ability is sadly not what the bike is capable of:blast

After shearing a mounting bolt from the crash bars, I've decided to ditch the crash bars and gone with just rocker covers. Started with the carbon covers from Wunderlich - did pretty well but the bolts are a little exposed which leads to them bending. This is a problem as they are the bolts for the rocker covers. I'm going back to the plastic OEM guards now :thumb2

After shearing a mounting bolt from the crash bars,

Yipes

No damage to the engine casings then?

That is something I was thinking about, the crash bars are held off the engine by spacers - perfect for getting a bit of leverage and damaging the casings?

Might be better just buying a stock of valve covers :D

The crash bars I had on were mounted one throught the chassis and one directly in to the engine casing directly behind - it was the one behind that sheared off. I had to get an egnineer friend to weld a new bolt on to get it out. So I think the engine casing is fine but seeing as I have gone off the idea now, it wouldn't matter too much if that thread was buggered.

Like I said, stock covers and some liquid metal in the toolkit... that reminds, I must buy some :blast
