This looks like a lot of fun.

He did a good job of keeping up with the sport bikes.:clap I was a bit sad at first when they all left him behind, but he didn't let them get away, despite the unfair advantage they had.:beerjug:

Good find.:thumb

Maybe I should get some road wheels.

I think I'm right in believing any 1200 GS rear wheel will fit

The front will be intresting, currently has ex Kawasaki forks and a Talon front wheel

Talon could build a new wheel with the same hub and disc but it's big bucks and what size would I go for? ( bearing in mind the back will most likley be a stock 1200 GS wheel)

Fit an SMR/SMT front end complete with big brakes. If you want your wheels to match treat yourself to a set of BST carbon wheels - R1200S 6" rear and a KTM front. That should sort it;)

Here's an 1150 showing how its done on the Isle of Man.

What's on with the forks of the megamoto in the video?

Great video (and no music even better).
Goes to show that sports bikes are made for the track, where there are long sweepers.
I would love to see a video of HP2 thru the twisties up or down a mountain pass, and competing with sports bikes.

BlueSweeper, I know you have done it, but any videos?

You need to check out the BMW HP2 team at the Pikes Peak races - 2007 IIRC. I'll post the link tonight.

I've done a little more digging on the video above - I'm not entirely sure it's a MM despite the title of the video. I believe it could be an R1200S based supermoto special using the telelever front end.

My brother used to live in Ivrea at the bottom end of the Aosta Valley. I only managed one holiday with him but to see how his little MZ250 would embarrass sports bikes on alpine passes was a sight to see. The riders were stunned that something so "slow" could beat them. The MZ front tyre had rubbed away shoulder treads long before the centre was anything close to worn out. One bloke on a GXR cut us up to get ahead only for bro to have him on the first hairpin. I had to sit back and do my best on an Aprilia Pegaso 650.

That was 2003 & no vids sadly. But we did get to the exact spot where the Italian Job film bus was left teetering on the edge. :)

I'm reliably informed that "it is Rikas old R1200s race bike converted into a mega moto hybrid. His race HP2S broke. So he took that out and had a laugh."

Same video as on boxertrix? Why don't you guys go to Oschersleben for the races on 9 May. Then you can watch the BMW twins race with the KTMs. Would make a good trip. More info here.

Directions

The nearest race is at Mettet, Belguim on 8 July.

Interesting. I've been following that on Boxertrix and have signed up specifically to find out more details. Thinking of taking the Mrs away for a romantic long weekend in Budapest in early April. Just happens to be the first race series of the season. Looks like we've got a Brit rider this year too. I thought that the boxercup died out long ago but it's clearly alive and kicking in Europe. Following with interest:)
