Looks like we got Calais back, don't tell the French

Used the maps of the Himalayas on my 60CSx for my trip from Leh - Tso Moriri - Sarchu - Kaylong - Kaza - Narko - Sangla - Narkanda - Shimla - Chandaragh a few weeks ago and they were pretty good.
All main roads were accurate and most of the minor tracks & roads were there as well as streets in the towns, I'd say the Himalaya maps were about 80% complete for where we went and what was there was about 95% accurate with nothing seriously wrong.

I daren't try it yet as my 60csx needed therapy after my last attempt at map tile loading, it actually burnt two of my 2gb cards and that was using the mapsource discs i had used before only several occasions.
I have a Garmin Montana 600 coming today from Wonky at Adventure Spec, he also provided the link.

expected to be able to open with the Garmin Mapsorse I have on me computer
I cant find the next stage need a 6 year old or wizard to give it a coat of lookin at

I've just built, downloaded and installed the mapping for the UK (the .exe installer for Mapsource on the Windows platform). It seems to work well in Mapsource - not sure if I'm brave enough to try transferring it to my 2720 yet though...
It'll be most useful for some more 'out of the way' European destinations that aren't covered in my current Mapsource version.
I've just built, downloaded and installed the mapping for the UK (the .exe installer for Mapsource on the Windows platform). It seems to work well in Mapsource - not sure if I'm brave enough to try transferring it to my 2720 yet though...

Well having it working in Mapsource it should be straightforward for me to transfer it to my 2720 (just select the 'maps' checkbox in the 'transfer' dialogue in Mapsource).
However I don't want to either cook my 2720 or be unable to reinstate the Garmin mapping so I think I'll let someone else try first
Thanks for the link. I'm thinking about Russia for a 2013 trip and I've just loaded the maps for the north west and they open up OK in Mapsource once you switch to the right product. I overlaid a track from someone's trip report and it followed the roads alright.

Worked for me! I have used the OSM mapping on my 2610 for most of the summer. I also have loaded it onto a 550 when someone carefully loaded all his waypoints before leaving the UK but forgot to load the Europe maps. Worked fine there too. It downloaded onto my PC and appears in Mapsource in the list of available maps.
I have only tested the mapping around here ( plus a look at the maps for areas I know well in the UK) and so far they are accurate. For me the biggest plus is I can keep my 2610 but for others the promise of free maps may be the main attraction

What I'd like to do is to load a mapset on to my laptop and then rename it and put it then on to a microSD card and use it in my Montana. Then if there is problems I can switch back to my mapping on the hard memory of the Montana which has CNNT2012.3 on it.

Worked for me for the USA earlier this year, trying SA maps next week.
I download the .img required for the map set I want, put it on the SD card volume on my 660. Finds it most times the 660 starts (not the fault of the maps, normal 660 behaviour)
The us maps weren't postcode / address detailed but if you set waypoints on destinations via the map routing was good.

Worked well in Spain as long as you use some common sense and a Mk 1 eyeball on the odd occasion - also full coverage of Cyprus (north and south)
With a full days touring on the internal battery the Quest still makes a great touring satnav

I'm off to Florida later this year with the family and have already downloaded the OpenStreetMap mapping for the State. Seems to work well in Mapsource/Basecamp. Tried the UK mapping last year and it did calculate routes differently, the road characteristics probably differ when compared to the Garmin data. Coverage seems better than Garmin's for some areas I looked at.
