Huge Difference in Servicing Costs!

Noo don't worry, I'm not going to do a Rasher, and yes i've searched for this, but nothing is recent enough.

But thought post up anyway for thoughts (and pi$$ takes!)

My bike is on approx 34.5k, it had its 30k service just over a year ago, so its due an Annual, and 36k soon.

I rang some dealers:

NOG

Annual - £250 :eek:
36k - £350

Cotswold BMW

Annual - £120-£170 (depending if brake fluid needs doing)

36k - £180 !!! (she said £120 first but said that could not be right and came back with £180, i double checked it does include diff fluids, air-filter ect..)

Northampton

Annual - £175-£230

36k - £250/£287


There is a huge variation in prices, my main question here, has anyone had an Annual service done at Cotswold recently, and was it really £120? :nenau

Look at the numbers he has been given (as in quoted) over the phone. Even if it swings up from one twenty to one seventy, it will still be no more than the lowest of the alternatives.

Of course if it is revealed that he also needs new tyres or Lord knows what else done then the price may well swing up again.

What does the OP want us to say? Not to go there? That Cotswold are crap / the best blokes on the planet? No doubt he is over 21, white and nominally of the Christian faith, surely he can reach a decision over a simple service on his own?

As to why the prices swing? It is not a cartel. Maybe he would be happier if they were all at about two hundred and fifty pounds?
 
I would be more concerned about what work is done and how well it is done as opposed to how much it costs.

Yuo only get what you pay for (sometimes) and you never get what you don't pay for (apart from cock-ups, they are often free)
 
If you are out of warranty period, I'd trust a good independant more than I would BMW :augie
 
I have a range of possibilities as I live in the South and work in the North.

In my experience servicing is alot cheaper up north - presumably because wages are lower.

On my Land Rover I saved about £150 by getting it serviced up north.

On my bike I was quoted 270 for a 12K service by Bahnstormer. I had it serviced by Bob Jeffries for £220. I declined their offer to replace tyres and brake pads for me.

Try Jockland, they are so far north they pay customers to bring the bikes in. Or so I am told.

That was the general idea, asking for any feed back from anyone who used that garage. Its such a simple request on most forums, sadly its too much for you tossers.

Its in the extended warranty, so still needs its annual & millage BMW services, to keep it valid.

helpful? It seems to be the only (and first) reply - following your plaintive bump - that seems to relate to your main enquiry.

On the face of it you have several alternative quotes, rising in cost. You are going for a standard simple service; unless it is miles out of your way why not give Cotswold a try and put the £50 you save towards a couple of tanks of fuel. If you are not convinced it is genuine, re-check with the doris on the phone. You could even send them a mail to confirm the booking at the indicated price.

Or, if you are at all sceptical, take the next highest offer.
 
Cotswold (Gloucester) did my GSA 12k+annual service. Cost £253.
They did a fine job, and valeted the bike very nicely. Plus a free loan bike.

They also did the first service on my S1000RR:thumb

That first piece of good news turned up in Search :thumb2 but has been dismissed as not current enough :D

I think you will find it does ........ Under Block Exemption rules you can have it serviced outside the dealer network whilst still under the manufacturers warranty. If you then buy a BMW Motorrad Extended Warranty it stipulates in the T&C's that it must be serviced by an Authorised BMW Dealer or BMW Service Authorised Workshop using only Genuine BMW parts :blagblah
