This happened to few people who had the Puig hugger. Bloody expensive job I reckon.

I would imagine that’s a really expensive repair bill.
It’s been a well publicised issue on previous GS’s and other models why should that change on the 1300?
I used the ILBERGER Carbon Hugger on the 1250GS/RS. I see for the 1300GS/RS/R is the same set up and has more coverage. I didn't pay that much for mine. It is TUV approved. I recon the chap used an Ali item and the bolt was not up to spec?
ILBERGER mounts the hugger in a different way. The bolts supplied are specific for the hugger and do not touch the rear disk.
You can see in the video from 10:20 how is mounted.
Fitting the rear hugger instruction on the 1200GS. I didn't have to take off the rear wheel because I had cast wheels so plenty of space to get the bolts out.

Looks like i had a very lucky escape on me GSA1250
Only noticed when I got back from Poland.And yes,the fixing bolts had slightly worked themselves loose.

Are they original Puig huggers or copies?
If you look at the picture he posted he said that is Chinese.
Kind of doesn't make sense to me. Spunk out £20000+ and than buy a piece of shit for £30. Especially when involves a crucial part. People only learn when it hurts them in the pocket. Secondly product liability 0.

I've put the original Puig ones on 6 or 7 bikes and had no issues with any
It wasn't the hugger that originally failed,I think the BMW bolt worked it's self lose,as both were loose when I took it all apart.As for buying cheap Chinese stuff-some you win and some you lose.
Same thing hapopened to me during our last trip to Scotland. Bolt at the end of the torsion arm came out. Luckily @dub 24 spotted it while we were stopped so no long term damage was done, just a few marks on the outside of the driveshaft casing. My bad for using below par fittings - won't happen again.

Me to, always use the supplied new bolts and loctite on the thread.

I've got the power bronze hugger - doesn't fix using the torsion bar bolt (checked last night after this thread!!)
In hindsight, this was my downfall. Schoolboy error on my behalf.

I bought a puig hugger for my 1250. I didn't like the new fasteners, they don't look like there as high of rating as the BMW stock torques. But I really don't know for sure about that. And using one of the caliper bolts is unexceptable imo ....
After seeing a few pics of bikes that had the hugger fail, I took mine off ...... win some lose some. It's pretty dry in these parts anyway. Maybe I'll be able to find a different way to protect the electronics ......
