Had a great run today up Glenshee to Braemar then along Deeside to Aberdeen then back down the coast road. Roads were nearly empty - superb.
Anyway, stopped as usual in Braemar at the popular Hungry Highlander for a coffee & burger. It turns out its closing from this Sunday:( - so an excellent biker stop bites the dust which is a shame. The present leaseholder has the lease until January but perhaps it will re-open after that with somebody else?

Cheers........Grizzly :beerjug:

I thought that was a wee goldmine. Hopefully somebody else will take it on :thumb2

Never stopped, as Braemar always seems to be a bit fuddy duddy, so I've always headed up to Cairnwell or the Lecht ski cafes.

Must be all my fault then :blast

The wifie that owns it also owns the clothes shop opposite.
Last time I spoke to her she was looking for somebody to take it over.

Paid it a visit many times. Hence my not inconsiderable girth! Sad loss!

I was there on Sunday, stunning run ... warm, sunny. I got there just after 11am and was the only bike there. A Honda CBF joined soon after and then there were about a dozen of us by noon, although mostly 1200 GSs (including a red 2011). Good day out.

They've said someone's apparently taking over the lease.

I had my last of poke of chips on Sunday.
A number of GSs were in attendance.

It was a pretty good day out on Sunday, odd weather right enough.

Rocky -just dawned on me, we were the two GSs who turned up as you were getting your grub organised.

Well it was good to meet you, enjoyed shooting the breeze with you. Funny how you meet people who have similar interests/experience (1200GS, oil industry) who know many of the same people!

Hope the rest of your run was enjoyable, it was good all the way back to Banchory.

Its always bust when the suns out but as there is virtually no space to sit down its always empty in the colder times and when it wet (which is regular). I think if they built a conservatory type extension part way to offer some seating it would remain profitable all year.

Lets hope someone makes something of it:thumb2

one of the problems is that they are in a state of constant warfare with the tourocrap shop next door over parking; particularly bikes parking in front of tourocrap shop

Hope it opens again.

Your right Andy. I think most bikers think its a gold mine because usually when we stop it's busy - but that's probably because it's a nice day for a run, but on the numerous other days its apparently dead.
And as Gerry says, the cafe customers are not "suitable" for the tourist crap next door. For that reason planning for an extension might struggle?
It used to be the petrol station in my younger days :rob - can't remember when that closed? Pumps were where the picnic tables are now

'but on the numerous other days its apparently dead. '

you are right Grizz. I have passed there a few times in good weather and maybe a couple of customers of the 'non mortorcyclists' variety. Some days no standing room tho' with loadsa' bikes around.

Of course ,I am a motorcyclist - no a 'biker'. and as one 'waghole' put it, of the 'nae friends' variety too :flag

I was up that way a couple of weeks ago. HH definitely closed for good. :tears

One of the locals thought it was going to change to an Indian takeaway

That's Sad

Sorry to hear that - it was a nice "simple" biker stop - will be missed:(

Cheers.........................Grizzly:beerjug:

Was open yesterday, fish and chips, burger and chips etc . Most of the seating gone , no working toilet, nowt to clean your visor with ! Owners looked as if the bikes may have been a surprise. They may improve, who knows. As usual no one spoke to me .......but I'm English and was on a Harley:ymca:ymca

Well, I visited the newly relaunched Hungry Highlander today. Clearly still being refurbished, and it appears its main function is an Indian style takeaway in the evenings.

The food at lunchtime is a little more traditional - burgers or fish and chips - and seems largely an afterthought. No menu or price list for the weekend lunch customers, and the food was frankly disappointing.

I doubt I will return there. I can only hope the quality of their evening food is better (which would be fairly easy judging by today's experience).
