Husky TE610

I researched them (600L/650R/L) a couple weeks ago. Rubbish fuel economy (the 1200 gets better mpg). Great bike but not for today's fuel rip-off. I also want kick start which I know can be retro fitted from the 600 but it's a pita.

Otto's got a point I've read these 650GS is pretty good, solid motors, good with poor quality fuel. People have taken them just about any old place you can think of....

yup I'd take one of them a BMW 650 single... cheap, good...economical..nice

:thumb2

you could have an adventure of a life time on one of them...

Oh an yeah

"Jobs a Carrott!"

The XR650 (the water cooled one) is kick only

If I was going to Cape Town..........................

It would be on a ....................

Honda Africa Twin

Honda XR400/600/600L/650

Yamaha Tenere - 600/660

BMW 650 G or F Series

It certainly wouldn't be on anything Italian (Husky) or KTM

When I jump on the 1200 I fall in love with it. I know it's deceiving; snow and sand are a nightmare but it's such a lovely ride. :blast

Dunno if it'll get me to cape town ... servo brakes ... shaft drive ... :blast

I'd be carrying a lot more stuff then E&C did!

carry less stuff take more money....there are shops, for everything else there's fedex...

how hard can it be....:blast

Now you have the bike sorted, have a great time.....oh and don't forget your passport:blast:D

Is it me but has no one else noticed that Husky are owned by BMW.

I’m sure BMW being typically German and manager by engineers would have been sharing (and borrowing) all the good ideas between the brands since purchasing them in 2007.

This weeks MCN has a big article on the new Husky se610, they reckon that since BMW bought them out 2 years ago reliability etc is much improved and the new bike is great. Is this the discontinued 650 X Challenge in disguise albeit with MT21's fitted as standard and a decent rear shock?

Mine was made whilst they were briefly owned by MV Augusta - it has a great big MV logo on the VIN plate - always knew I'd own an MV one day :D

Any piccies - I've had a quick Google but found nought :nenau

I didn't forget my passport last time, if that's what you're referring too :pullface

I'm still set on the TE610 or the KTM690. Both seem difficult to justify price wise and are impossible to find. :)

Just seen the TE310 ... completely overlooked.

Light, kick start, FI and a six speed gearbox. :thumb2

Could be the one, it's like an updated DR350.

Edit: too small, gears too close - same as 450

Didn't have me glasses on when I read the article yesterday afternoon :D
Review that I was reading in MCN was for the new Husky TE630 :blast

Looks good though, if off road is your thing, full report in next weeks paper :thumb

That seems logical ...

... bikes that are hard to find, expensive and a limited (1st World) dealer network; sounds like just the recipe for another Snoopysaga :augie

Have you thought about trying to make it really difficult for yourselves ? You could for example:

Carry a live fish
Take only US dollars
Seek sponsorship for not cutting your toenails

Other suggestions welcomed; by me if not by him

Do I understand this correctly?

  • You're buying a bike from scratch (£££££)
  • You'll prep the bike for a substantial overland trip (£££££) (Sorry, I forgot this is you - <strike>£££££</strike> pp)
  • You'll have ferries to pay for
  • Spares to buy
  • General running costs (tyres, oil, fuel, etc)
  • Insurances
  • Panhandlers to fob off
  • Accommodation to buy
  • Cost of returning you (and your bike?) to the UK
  • etc etc

... and you're worried about fuel consumption when fuel costs little more than half the UK price??

:nenau

I used to own a TE610E which has now gone to its proud new owner and they are great bikes, very well built, reliable with plenty of power but NOT the bike for your trip.

I would be tempted with a Honda XR650 or even a Honda Transalp (600 the best imho). What about a DRZ400, very reliable and proven or 660 tenere. Your barking up the wrong tree thinking of a Husky they need regular oil and filter changes.
