Im bagging the munros ,started 20 months ago on semi retirement.
Was going to do the odd one here and there but its kind of bit me and have done 201 of the 282 munros, with my border terrier.
I use walk highland app , this gives hiking routes,inc the rest of the uk, it also gives a map ref at any point, also use memory maps which are os mapping but importantly allow you to download whole countries , so offline mapping.
I have a new app called Hiker , its good but you need to download your routes when you still have good internet.
I carry a map and compass too , but prefer the tech.
I carry a Zoleo emergency communicator so always got a way of communicating in an emergency.
Like biking its better to be prepared.
Out tommorow doing two hills next to Ben Nevis, Aonach Mor Nd Anoach Beag

======

I have started you a fresh thread.

I have that app on my phone, but must admit, prefer paper maps for immediacy and forward planning, especially if weather closes in. Makes taking bearings using detailed large scale maps easy on the very occasional I'm unsure of present position, although gps pin points that more readily. You've done really well on the Munroes! I used to live in the Grampians so did a lot of hill walking there and popped up to the Cairngorm's on the odd weekend. Once got lost in a complete white-out blizzard in the hills above Lough Muick only to stumble down to safety and find myself knocking on the door of a the lough-side retreat to find it was the Royals getaway in the Balmoral Estate!

"Munro Bagging" is a serious undertaking, glad you nearer the end than the start, well done that man...and your dog 👍

must admit I've never used the Walk Highland app or Hiker, must check them out.

These are the apps currently on my phone.

As soon as i create a route on an app, i click download route while I'm still on wifi.
Ive often thought of getting the Garmin Inreach for emergencies, they give peace of mind.

I stopped walking for a few years and put on weight, i got back to it and stupidly went hill climbing on a long walk, i seriously had to stop cos i though i was going to have a heart attack, tight chest ect.
Even sillier i was trying to keep up with a mate ex military and fit. Didn't want to complain and look a wuss... stupid!
