I appear to be missing maps

I was told the method I suggested above while on the phone to garmin. It's because your satnav is missing a file that garmin express wants to see but can't. If you pm me your email address I can forward on the instructions they emailed to me.

I actually waited 3 hours to be told that the download had been unsuccessful on both the satnav and the PC. With Mapsource you used to be able to copy small sections of the map of europe to the unit. Now with basecamp if it don't fit on the unit it has to go on an sd card. Rubbish!!

According to garmin it was because they needed to future proof the systems to work more efficiently and work with Mac systems.......seems to have done the opposite to me.

Pablo, I ddin't get the option to sent to the computer.. there was nothing to click, it just said 'no maps available' :thumb

Thanks for the offer... pm sent :thumb

Off to work in a bit , will try to resolve this evening

Two more calls to Garmin...

First one tells me that I need to download a new map updater... so she sends me the link...

When that didn't work the second half an hour on hold and talking to another 'advisor' who tells me that my garmin express is out dated, and sends me a link that will sort the problem 99% of the time- so he said

Download that one, and it doesn't help .. and now Garmin support are closed

That is the instructions that I was going to send you.......

Out of 2 660 zumo's one responded to this and the other didn't.
The one that didn't he went ape at garmin explaining that he has spent over £600 on buying the unit originally then paying £120 for a replacement unit after 15 months and now that one update with the new maps, so they said to return it. 5 days later he received a brand new in the box 660LM complete with all the mounts and the latest maps loaded on it.

I got rid of my 660 and bought a garmin montana........glad I did!

Thanks for that... Will be ringing Garmin yet again tomorrow when I get home from work....

Well, on the phone this morning at 0830, spoke to yet another techy.. .this time a young lady called Sarah C.

She appears to have got it sorted for me....

Sent me a new version of map installer, and got me to delete a few more things that I can't recall :eek

Then I managed to download UK and Ireland current maps to the unit , and the whole of Europe to the Mac , and then transfer a block of maps to the unit once that was done...... and it appears to have worked :roll

so there's hope yet :Motomartin

I am so glad I use opensteetmaps having read this and other threads on the subject of downloading or updating from Garmin. My Europe map took all of 15 mins to be downloaded. works in Basecamp or Mapsource without problems.

John

Oh Wise Grey One, John, please elaborate on that statement.
Is it that easy to use openstreetmaps on a Garmin GPS?
Sounds too good to be true.
Pray, how?
Zumo 550 is temperamental enough. Is it really possible to load other maps and use easily?
Pete.

Have a look through the StreetPilot area. These old units don't use Garmin's current mapping so OpenStreetMap is a very good alternative. They're easy to use and free,. Only downside I've found is that they don't support UK postcodes and they're greedy for storage space.
