God only knows what ive done but some of the games i have wont play properly any more :(
Now were not talking high spec games here but ones from 1999/2000 needing the following spec
* Pentium 266 MHz processor or faster
* 32 MB RAM
* Windows 95
* 3D Accelerator
* DirectX 6 or higher
* 4X CD-Rom

i'm running win xp with AMD Athlon xp2600+ 2.08ghz & 512 mg ram
surely this should cope ?

Any help for a numpty please :thumb

Do you mean that they did work on this PC and now they don't? (need more info on what you've recently changed if that's the case)

Otherwise, some Win95/98 games won't run under XP as they weren't designed for the later OS.

You could try right clicking on the exe file, select properties and then the compatibility tab...then tell it to run in W98/95 mode and see if that works.

Haven't played them for a couple of years but they work fine on my sons laptop (xp 512 ram ) and have tried running the compatibility thingy for 95 and 98 but no joy .

I've had success with some games that wouldn't work on XP with installing a "Virtual Windows 98" version that runs under Virtual PC - you'll need your original Windows 98 CD also.

Hmm.......could maybe be something to do with Direct-x or similar?
Try setting the PC's graphics options DOWN.....and disable hardware acceleration...I know that sounds silly but the laptop will likely be running at a lower spec and within the parameters of the game..if the game engine doesn't understand what the new machine has in it, it might not be able to start up...even though things are supposed to be backwards compatible.

I've got a couple of old classics I'd really like to play on my XP machines but I've not managed it yet...Dune2000 for example :(
