I want to replace the standard GS windscreen with a larger one for winter. Problem is I can't get the bolts either side removed. The nuts come off easily but then I can't get the bolt out. Is there a trick to this that I'm missing?

Cheers, Rob.

If its a 1200 the bolts with the adjusters have 10mm nuts on the inside. Most people just take off the knurly nuts and dont see the smaller ones behind. Dont overtighten these when replacing it otherwise you wont be able to adjust it!

Do you mean there are 2 sets of nuts on he inside? I've removed the nylock 10mm nuts already but then the bolt still wont come out. I'll see if I can see another nut when it's light tomorrow.

Thanks ;)

The adjuster ones, upper from memory, will loosen (to adjust screen) but not come right out. Sounds like youve taken off the 10mm nuts? in that case the bolts (black plastic thingys) should unscrew and come out?

It might look better in the morning!

OE fit is a dome headed nut, perhaps yours have been changed.
Black adjuster should just unscrew. Some easing oil, leave awhile, then water pump pliers on a rag?

How old is the bike?

I've Changed screens a few times and it seemed a fairly easy process, even with the adventures screens on a standards gs.

2005 but its done just under 80k miles in all weathers. Probably just need to let the WD40 work its magic for a while longer.

Thanks everyone,

Rob.

p.s. anyone got a tall wide screen going cheap? ;)
