I discovered Dynamic Mode today... that might explain the tyre shortage

Read the post. Im talking about a machine such as the zxr12 not a production racer. Read and understand..... and oh .. my hp2 would waste the zx around the tt course. Open them eyes.

You should be reading and understanding :) We where talking about how fast the GS LC Felt, the perception of how fast it went, I commented that my LC is nowhere as quick as my ZX12R, just to try and put some perspective on it. Now open them eyes!

No you wernt. You was stating the zx was faster. I stated the gslc were faster a to b on your usual a/b roads. Ive had a zx12r too you know. Shit brakes, far too much power, poor handling, and scary to ride too fast. I saw 190 on the speedo matey boy. Gs would smash it into the weeds pal. A drag racer is fast .....too.

Do you need a hug?

Do you need a hug?

:D

I think I'm getting old, I kind of find sports bikes are too fast. My ZZR were excellent fun, but they never felt right until you got them going at a pace and then I'd find I'd be arriving at stuff (corners, etc) too quick... I could never get the hang of counter steering either until I got on a GS

I can think of at least one ride with a mate on a K1300S that I got to the destination a good half hour ahead of him :D he's hooooned of at high 3 figure speeds only to completely miss the road we actually needed... he had a fun ride, I have more beers at the bar :D

I bow down to your superior motorcycling knowledge :) I'm not quite sure what all that above means though as you still haven't quite grasped what I was saying. I never mentioned my GSLC on A/B roads, I was just saying in the pure context of speed, my ZX12R is Faster. I to have seen 190MPH + on the Speedo and have the timing ticket somewhere from Elvington....... "Matey Boy".

I'm making a direct comparison, as on Sunday I took out my GSLC, then later that day the ZX12R.

:hug

Fuck me, I give up!! I think I'll sell the LC and get my GSA Back.

Mmmmmmm ...

Most of the time there's only so fast you can go. So to a greater or lesser extent, what you're riding is (within reason) fairly irelevant. On paper my 2013 GS gets blown away by say, a new 1190 adventure, but the reality? The reality is that on that back B road neither of us are going to see much over 100? 110? before we're on the brakes again and the next corner is on us.
For me, what makes a quick bike - and that's useful quick, relevant quick .... is how it makes its power and how it puts it down on the road. I am a great fan of twins because of the great road manners they have. Instant grunt when and where you want it (on the gas out the corner) and instant engine braking that really exagerates that ease and squeeze and gives for great overtaking and floating in and out of traffic.

Over the last ten years I guess I've slowly come away from sports bikes. Any monkey can do 170 on a duall carriageway. It takes bugger all skill or talent and I don't want to lose my licence. And more relevantly, modern sports bikes are so 'good', that they only start 'working' at 70+. :nenau What's the point? (yeah yeah yeah .... if yer gonna track day it fine .... ). Fantastic on those open A roads, but all of a sudden you're regularly doing 130, it becomes the only way to enjoy your bike, and that's going to land you in a whole heap of trouble eventually.

So yep - it's b roads for my play time, and that means yer still getting that buzz, yer eyes are still on stalks, it still feels feckin' quick, and if you get caught you're more than likely under three figures.
And the GS is bloody good at it. You have great vision (absolutely the key, 100%, to riding quickly), it has great suspension and floats beautifully on yer typical back road, it has that real world usable mid range punch that makes up real world practical drive, and of course great brakes.

Of course I'd have a Ducati Pannigale in my garage if I won the lottery :P but for the moment and my 'need for speed', my now properly sorted 2013 GS on a nadgery back road gives me all the adrenalin spiked Neanderthal dinosour hunting that I need .... :D

Anyone can go fast in a straight line.
The gs is the quickest bike I've had for real world riding. Giles has covered the engine part which I totally agree with. The other major factor why its so quick on real roads is the view you get being nice and high up. The cross views come to you more easily than slumped over a tank looking at the bottom of hedges.
I've just got back from a tour around the lakes. My cousin on his f800s and my mate on a gsxr. We did approx 280 miles a day of tight twisty roads. Who was quickest? the gs blew away the others in those sections being so tractable etc. There's also only so fast anyone can go round a bend. I'm yet to meet a rider that can challenge an r engine on the twistys. Yes on long straight sections a 190 mph bike must be very nice. But I'm already at the next corner!!!...

Get a room you two.
That would be nice. Would i need to stuff my underpants with fishing hooks and sleep with one eye open, and i dont mean the japanese one. Can we have a double room please with all room contents made of soft plastic like in the tower lounge(wildwest bar a.k.a.) in blackpool.x

yup. Plus One

.

The GS engine may not have the HP figures of the latest open class sportbikes, but it does make the same HP that some open-class sportbikes made 10 years ago, but with a lot more low-end torque. It will blow away the ZX-9r I used to ride on any road with curves in it, and have better roll-on power up through 120 mph to boot.

One other great thing not mentioned yet is its ability to do insanely late-braking maneuvers without upsetting the chassis or washing out the front end. You can carry much more cornering speed and still be able to stop safely when something unexpected is far enough ahead around the apex so you don't see it until you're just about to tip the bike in. Thats where telelever and ABS really works in the real world.

yeah , the front setup doesn't cause the bike to stand up when you brake mid corner.

I have to agree .... - I swapped my K1200S for a R1200GS and loved the almost carefree way that you could wind th epower on coming out of just about any corner. However, with my 2014 GSA WC in Dynamic Mode, I find myself having to be a bit more careful than carefree - the extra few horses combined with the quicker throttle can make it feel a little scary of you are too agricultural. Awesome bike and absolutely ideal for country roads - just had a fantastic time on a recent tour of Northern Spain & Northern Portugal - amazing roads and the bike was quite superb.
