I hate my Schubert C3 helmet!!!

Fix might be here:-

same problem with mine I am going to give these a try.

Thanks for that, might give them a try if I need spares again - I managed to fix the helmet by stealing a part of my old C3 that I had sitting under my desk at work -all good now BUT I went out and bought a Shoei Neotec yesterday before I realised what the fix was!

At least I have two good helmets now - will report on the Neotec after I have road tested it for a week or so. It does appear to be a mightily good helmet though, quality appears better than the Schuberth.

Schuberth C3 with Pinlock

No problems with mechanism after 12 months & probably 10,000miles.

But this weekend I took a 4 day tour up North, lovely & sunny. But my face got really burned, I don't recall this happening in south of France last year even at 30 degrees plus.

Has anyone else suffered this, I wondered if the combination of visor + pinlock + sunshade magnifiies the suns rays.

....Hmmm...you are not alone...
I bought a C3 3 years ago, took it on one long trip..came home put the helmet in a box...for good. Crap visor and too hot....
Still wearing my old Arai.
Schuberth is over hyped and over priced...be greatt if they were £100 NOT £450:(

Just back from Edinburgh after having the 1200 serviced, rode up there on the gsa and anything over 50mph the c3 visor slams shut, took out a r1200r loan bike for 3 hours and the visor stays open to at least the national limit with no buffetting or noise.
Not the lid at fault it is turbulence from the gsa screen

I agree :thumb2

I had no problems when my GSA was fitted with an extra low seat but now I'm using a standard Sargent Seat the visor is slamming shut at about 50+mph.

Gotta say that it seems slightly worse since I fitted the pinlock insert too.

Schuberth sucks

.... but HUGE problems with wind noise. No matter what settings I used ....

After getting really hacked off with the visor not staying open (despite the new inserts) I've reverted to an open face KBC helmet i picked up in a sale for £25.... wow, what a difference. I hadn't realised just how noisy the C3 was!

So: my £25 helmet has a working visor, is far quieter and lighter than my £450 Schuberth.

The Lesson: You don't always get what you pay for - especially if it's a schuberth.

Fitted the new ratchet mechanism from James shergold as above, helmet now perfect.

What model, where from, do they have any left?

Cheers,

JB

... anything over 50mph the c3 visor slams shut, t

whilst completely accepting the fact that it's down to personal choice, (a) have Schuberth ever claimed their visors would stay open at higher speeds and (b) given the damage impact from something like a bee could do to your eye at even 30 mph, is it really a good idea that they should?

BTW, I've had my C3 for about eighteen months and love it. My partner loves hers too.

Schuberth

I couldn't get on with mine either. The lacquer on the visor started to peel off, t he sun visor thing keeps falling down and its really noisy for quite an expensive helmet. I only use it now and again the the winter, Arai Tour X the rest of the time......mega lid :aidan

I've got a C2 that's about 5 years old. The visor slams shut as discussed above. The forward vent position gives good airflow but normal minor screen turbulence causes it to rattle. Noise is better than any other helmet I've owned, but that's not saying much they all have toxic levels without ear plugs.

Finally got totally pissed off whilst away in 30 degrees heat for the past two weeks with the c3 visor shutting over 45 mph.
Started to experiment with some means to alter the visor, I ended up cutting a couple of polysyrene discs from of all things a salad container, they were fitted behind the visor pivot and the visor replaced.
With the visor back on eureka, it stayed open to 85 mph on the Autobahn and when it does shut it still does not leak in rain.
Once home I've replaced the polystyrene with two suitably sized O rings which work even better.
That is with a size 60/61 lid, with my wifes size 55 the O rings were too thick so I used two flat rubber plumbing washers which work the same.
Should I tell Schuberth and demand royalties?
Try the fix yourselves and see what you think

Do you have any photographs of your "fix"??

:beerjug:

I am not impressed either.

To start with it pinched really bad after 20-30 minutes, I have managed to get it fairly comfy by gently pressing the pressure points each time I stopped.

The visor slams shut, was OK for a few hundred miles, but from setting off on my recent tour to returning it went to crap - just as I was in 35c heat and discovering the other big flaw....

... it is f***** hot in these things, the vents do f*** all, someone mentioned taping them up to reduce noise - you may as well as they let bugger all air in.

Riding with visor up (and sunshield down) worked well for keeping cool, but it soon started to slam shut, at first now and again at speed (80+) but soon became far more regular at anything over 60 ish so no good on motorway.

The ear pockets are also all wrong, I soon found the Autocom speakers were causing severe ear pain, ended up having to cut loads of foam out in the correct place and re-seat speakers around me ears - OK now, but no idea how Schuberth got these so far out of place.

As stated for £100 you would be happy, if the thing was comfortable, allowed in air through the vents, the visor stayed where put and the speaker pockets were in the right place it may justify the premium price tag.

Luckily I got it "cheap" at the bike show, but still think it is shite compared to my HJC R-Pha Max which is light, airy and the visor stays in place, the only problem is it has no speaker pockets so I use it for local blasts and commuting, the C3 was supposed to be my touring lid, but I reckon I may be looking again at this years bike show.

The C3 may be OK for short winter runs when the near earth surface heat could be welcome.

I've created a separate post in this forum and Melly Senior has posted pictures, trust me it works.
