Dead battery, full petrol tank. Managed to remove the battery by propping up the tank. Pair of gloves over the frame , as insulation against spanner earthing, more of that later🙄
New battery, anyway shorted the spanner against the frame, as glove fell offframe.
I know positive should be fitted first.😪 Tried to save time and effort.😠🤬
Bike won't start, no spark. I've fried the cdi unit haven't I!
Checked the fuses on R/H side under sidepanel, all look OK.

Engine turns over, all lights work, apart from the neutral light. That seems odd, does this have any relevance?
Side stand relay clicks on and off when sidestand is moved.
Relay behind the R/H panel clicks, when ignition turned on, fairly sure it's for the Digiplex.
Did I mention that I hate myself?
Any thoughts about it being something other than the Digiplex unit?

if the current went through the spanner to the frame, why would any electronics be affected?

What is the route of the current from the frame contact point back to the battery negative lead? Is there an earth strap at some point that has burnt out?

The starter probably works as it has a route back to the battery via the engine.

Bike started ok before I fitted the new battery.

if the current is going through the spanner direct to earth, it is not going through any fuse

Negative OFF first and back ON Last ALWAYS

Anyway start going through the checklist!! You should not have fried the Ignition as you "Splashed" the spanner to the frame You did not invert the connections ??? :hide:hide:hide

So Don't just aim a thought a something and follow it down a rabbit hole !

Fuel ??

Spark?? N.B. Ground plugs when testing properly and don;t just leave them hanging!

Spark at correct time ?

Kill Switch

Neutral Switch

you put the battery on the right way round ?
check power to coils . use a circuit tester NOT a volt meter .
is the kill switch in run mode ?
pickup on rhs under carb ? is it clean ?

open up dizzy cover plate , is it machined ? does cam have a gear ? you can always pop in a dizzy , and change the coils.

have you checked the earthing points from frame to battery yet? These are the bits that could have got hot

Have you checked for a spark?

Cheers

Yes, as stated in my post.

FFS.

Decided to see what earthing points I could find as Wessie suggested. Looked into the black void behind the battery and between the mudguard. A decade ago I coated the top face of the mudguard and frame tubes with Waxoyl, so it is really dirty and dark in there.
Wait for it, inspection lamp showed what at first I thought was a washer...... Ah..... bugger.....embarrassing....... its the round crimped on terminal for the power lead from the battery leading to the Digiplex relay.
No point in hearing the relay click if it doesnt have a power supply. 😬Too late at night to attempt a start up. Neighbours would not be happy.
Try it tomorrow.
FEEL FREE TO TAKE THE PISS.🤪

Ah good, everyone's asleep. I'll have to see what piss
taking there is tomorrow morning.

well, you seem to have got away with the confessed fuckwittery but added a different dimension of ineptitude

maybe next time you will do as advised, follow the path of the electrons rather than plan to swap out sealed boxes like some sort of franchised dealer's alleged technician
