Hi to all, chuffed to bits with the GSA it rides very well BUT.

On closer inspection there has been some corrosion!

Frame and swingarm mostly.

Nothing to serious, and i have greased up for now to prevent further rot.

Will havet to stip the bike down this winter and get it all powder coated.

One thing though, the paint finish doesnt seem to clever is this usual ?

Also how long to strip a GSA to the frame, 1 day maybe ??

Thanks

Simon

If you can find someone to do it, get it painted in two-pack epoxy rather than powder coat. It's a better and more durable finish. Yes the dodgy OEM paint finish isn't uncommon....:(

Good news in one sence so not just me.

Thanks for the advise on the painting thing.

Its a must if i want the bike to last.

Thanks

Simon

My "54" plate has had a couple of new timing covers and a centre stand under warranty due to corrosion.

Only frame rust is on the silencer mounting bracket at it's junction with the sub-frame, but it's not real rust just rust staining - ACF50 applied after washing.

Why not go for bead blasting then hot-dip galvanising on the frame before getting it painted in a hard coat epoxy glass finish. It would last pretty much forever and shouldn't cost the earth.

You would be better off replacing the corroded alloy swingarm with an item from a breakers.

Modern water-based finishes aren't a patch on the older VOC containing products, but at least the greens are happy.
