Fair do's ......................... you're wrong though :)

Andres

I fear that UKGSer is too heavily compromised by virtue (?) of its inhabitants to expect such semantic precision here. You're correct though, it's quite possibly the best possible compromise for a road bike in comparison with most, if not all of the others which are too heavily compromised in one direction or another to achieve such all round greatness..... :)

The things I like most about the '13 toilet are the owners........without exception, they are wonderful, intelligent witty humorous people with thick skins and a down-to-earth attitude that sees them through any problems they might have, even if it's something really serious like the clasp on their manbag snapping in the middle of France

Honest, I mean that from the heart of my bottom :bow

Doesn't it all depend on what you (as in the individual) want from their bikes? A good all rounder suits some (I include myself in that) but a more focused (less compromised) bike pleases many others aka R1, Hayabusa's etc etc. At the end of the day its only an individuals opinion anyway and doesn't matter a bean to anyone else.

Like all generalisation, this one is the load of shite in the heart of your bottom..... :P

why do people have to go on about how fucking wonderful their bike is?

if it's not the old luddites regular as clockwork 1150 love-in, it's the born again khazi pilots spunking over their chosen steed.

all sounds a bit desperate to me :nenau

Quite correct, if you're not a well-balanced, integrated human being, you wouldn't appreciate a WC. That obviously includes those who need to compensate for a lack of riding skill by having a surfeit of power and those who haven't got the skill to use what the GS offers. :)

To save some time

semantics

plural noun: semantics

"such quibbling over semantics may seem petty stuff"

What about the Triumph 800?

....you're right the owner of a WC can be a characterised by their meekness, sweaty palmed handshake and OCD patting of pockets to check their BMW assist card is still with them. But rather than mock them, I've asked my self what can I do to change this unfortunate but very accurate generalisation?

There was only one thing for it, the WC owner gene pool needs strengthening - Windy (Mike) has already thrown his into the pool (literally) and I will now do the same.

Well ...... I have my new GSA for a grand total of 4 days and have only covered 100 miles

But coming from a well sorted 1200GSA MU 2008 I have noticed some improvements although not ground breaking they are just better IMHO :D

Side stand.... actually the right length so the bike does not have an excessive lean.

Front fender.... now has built in fork protector.

Adjustable screen...... about time

Cruise control..... about time

Adjustable gear leaver..... Saves buying a £100 Touratech one :D

Seat height and adjustment..... At 6! tall I can get both feet firmly planted on the floor unlike the 1150 ADV

Engine finish (ADV)..... all black engine and running gear and finish looks robust.

Wheels..... Now matt finish so easier to keep clean :D

Styling..... Well thats personal but I think it's an improvement and quite an aggresive look.

Lights (LED)..... When filtering with LED spotlights and DRL cars seem to notice you a lot more so be seen be safe.

Early days for me but selecting first is way smoother than my K1200GT that used to clunk and lurch forward  gearbox is silky smooth, clutch is so light it beggars belief, handling is well balanced and very confidence inspiring.

I'm looking forward to my ownership of my first ever brand new BMW and hope to go back to Morocco next year to put it through its paces :bow what a country Morocco is :bow

Anyway that is my early impression of my new GSA and I'm very very pleased with my purchase :thumb

Peter Perfect, in his own perfect world:rolleyes:

Johnny Boxer to the world wide web please !

Sorry........... I was out riding my imperfect bike, however it was in the perfect bike terrain of the Yorkshire Dales

Very perceptive and more than likely correct

Affirmation, in a less than perfect world

I've never ridden a better bike than the one I've ridden for the last 10 years.... but there are plenty of bikes that, given an unlimited budget, I might ride which may be light years ahead of mine.

Awwww you were doing so well too, you shoulda let it run a bit more ;)

I think you'll find that what you meant to say was that the WC is a compromise and that other more focused bikes are less of a compromise :nenau

Andres

And I think you will find that you have misunderstood the GS concept. It is not a compromised design but one that has been very carefully tasked to suit the needs of a particular type of rider. My GS TE is perfectly suited to my needs. Honestly it's as close as a production bike could be to being exactly what I need. I suspect that the R1 rider would feel the same way as I do about his bike.

Is a GS as fast as an R1? We'll to be realistic about it it depends on the rider their respective skill set and how much risk they are prepared to accept. (Track days not withstanding)
Is an R1 as capable at touring as a GS bike? Well that's a hard argument for the R1 rider to make.
Which is better through traffic? As above really, yes I'm wider but people generally make room for the bigger bike.
Etc, etc . . .
