Now how much are those H&B bars, rear huggers, HID spots, Remus pipes, Caja Sahels, GPS's etc. ????

Piffle - 2-3K should easily cover it. Plus the bike cost. So - ooh - about the cost of a very reasonable used Porsche. When you look at it that way, it's a bargain isn't it.

Keep the 650

Keep the 650, its got a proper Rotax designed engine and transmission, the 1200 will go like the clappers until it breaks down, the 650 will keep going, even BMW haven't been able to screw up the Rotax engine.

I'm looking forward to seeing someone do a "Long Way Round " type trip on a 1200 and Dakar 650 just to see how far they get, in theory the 1200 should be good off road but how long will it last. The Dakar will just keep going.

I'm giving the 1200 a test ride as I think I'm going to want a larger bike more capable of two up touring with loads of kit. I know the 650 tours well one up as I have done it, but I think a bit more space is required to fit Pondgirl and all her gear if we want to do some continental touring.

I'll also try a 1150GS later on and see which one feels best for me. No purchase is going to be made until we move south, but I know one WILL be made soon after we settle in.

There is really only one answer.........keep the 650, and buy an 1150gsa. best of both worlds

I have its called an MZ 660, cracking little bike, A bit lighter and taller than the F650 but essentialy the same, shares a lot of the same parts, but £2000 cheaper. The F650 is one of the best bikes BMW have ever produced, the R1200 series on the other hand is about the worst.

Pondboy you could always get pondgirl one of her own then it would double the fun.
