I KNOW this will have been asked before... "Hilltopping"

I think the difference is between "BMW having to make the engine run as intended by the Brussels bureaucrats" and "A remap that makes the engine run as intended without any bureaucratic meddling with fueling efficiency...." The engines leave Germany working to satisfy the intentions of Brussels, not the needs of a normally aspirated 4 stroke engine.

'Bureaucratic meddling' as you call it is there to reduce unhealthy emissions - it isn't done just for the fun of it, or do you think it is?

The average levels of pollution (NOx for example) in London are very close to the WHO limits and greatly exceed this level many days each year (see my earlier thread on this subject) - the current emissins standards clearly aren't working.

So do you think we should have a free for all on emissions or not? Where do you draw the line?

If that's the case then they should still pass Euro 4 after a Hilltop re-map should they not? But Hilltop have already stated that they cannot guarantee that they would pass Euro 4 after their re-map.

It would be interesting to know if the rest of the World has more stringent requirements than Euro 4 for bikes?

But my point about the bike leaving the factory as intended still stands does it not - no manufacturer ships product in any other condition that it intends too - obvious that.

Is RFL cheaper for Euro 4 compliance ??

Can't see anywhere in my post where I expressed any opinion whatsever on the issue of emissions.

As an old timer I'd just like to say in my mad ever unhappy with my bikes (650ss Norton) performance in those long ago days ( no remaps in those far off days) I had Dunstall flowed ports Chuck Customizing components high lift cams et all but in the end looking back did it matter? No, we had great bikes and trips and instead of being unhappy about performance I wished now I'd used the money I spent then on more trips etc. I had a great bike and me personally remaps etc seems like searching for the holy grail of power( I haven't found it) just think what a great bike for all its niggles the GS is.
