Took this photo yesterday at the top of the grand ballon. I’ve had lots of bikes over the years but the 1150GS is still my favourite, it can do the mile munching AND the twisty turny uppy downy bits equally well. And it’s old school cool as well these days :D

My favourite bike also. I sold my 1150Gs when I bought a 1200. The 1150 had all of the upgrades that made it an all round winner: Ohlins both ends, Sargent seats, Tobinators, Remus etc etc and I loved it but had to scratch an itch with the 1200. No matter what I did to the 1200 (Ohlins, Sargent et al) I could not make it as good as the 1150. Sold it with only about 10k on the clock and bought a Honda. Now have another 1150 and feel very much at home on it. My last bike I think.

2003 and only 23k mile, most of which I’ve put on it since buying it two years ago

I went there years ago and camped at an old campsite located down the bottom of the hill :-) Do they still sell Honey from the cart at the top?

I saw a fair few honey stands at the roadsides, but the very top of the grand ballon was pretty busy and I was more concerned about avoiding cyclists and OAP’s wandering about in the road!

Although it was early in the season it turned out to be a good long weekend trip with a full day on the Vosges and a full day in the Black Forest :thumb2

They're fabulous, aren't they?

We all buy bikes for different reasons, but for the kind of ride you're doing they're still just so capable. And you can find a good one for what... £3500???

And as above, I also think the Tesco colour scheme still looks brilliant.

Can't fault my two. every time I think of something else........I ride mine and think why?
Tried a TwinCam 1200 GS, a few weeks ago and not a patch on mine, for me (yes it was faster/more responsive/better brakes)
I like my Tenere 700 though as it reminds me of my 1150, similar torquey power and albeit a lot lighter & more nimble

Mines more of a winter hack these days. :D
