I Love My 1200GS

Only had mine since April, straight swapped it for my k1200s, did wonder whether i was stupid or something, after 6 months and 8,000 miles I know I did the right thing, I have never enjoyed my biking as much as I do now, I have had every K series bike and this is my first "Boxer" I know i will always have a GS it does everything I ask of it and has put the fun back into riding, it is so easy to ride in every given situation and I find i am quicker on this bike because it inspires confidence.

...Interesting comments:

>60k mile in 2yrs on my 1150adv
FSH but it still gave me more heartache than any 2stroke that I ever owned
Disks warped, more than once, went on fire, serious oil leak...etc, etc
But loved the torquey engine - Got to know the dealer well!!!

> Swapped it for 12GS and did another 25K in 12mths
Slightly Smoother, quicker, lighter, better gearbox, better brakes when they worked but preferred the 1150 engine
Reliability, not much better, lost count of disks warped
New front wheel, oil leak, clutch gubbed, dodgy battery & rear shock, and shaft replaced.

Both engines always got out balance within a couple of Ks of being serviced, which was a pain, especially after forking out a small fortune.

The concept is good but they got the wrong engine in the bike and its over priced for the sum of the components.

And the lights are pish!

The new parallel engine is better but they should detune the engine from the Kseries and give it real 110hp and plenty of torque and make it more reliable.

Ditto, loving this bike!! Did a tour of the North Coast 2up on Sunday afternoon and it was great!! Roll on the cold winter mornings and the empty roads!! :clap

Even better, it makes me feel like i know what i am doing!!! :eek

I LOVE mine too . . . hence my username :D

I only got mine on 21st August 2006 and already done just under 1100 on mine. 315 of those were done on Saturday going to the NEC and back home again :D

I'm so chuffed I got mine! they really are the best bikes :)

in 2 minds....

i've had my 12ooGSA since May and have racked up 7k miles. I really like some aspects of the bike (handling, weather protection, heated grips) but i still haven't totally got along with the engine.

I have been hoping that it will smooth out as the miles build up, but it doesn't seem to like being under 2.5k or over 5k revs. That's a useable speed range but i think i miss 4 cylinder bikes (e.g. my 2000 zx-6r, bits of which are in a gravel trap at a track in Spain). My previous bike was an aprillia falco which doesn't like less than 3k revs but loves anything over. :spitfire

Will things improve? Or will I realise that my license is safer this way? :nenau

I haven't been off road yet, i'll try that next year and maybe get alot more out of the bike.

FWIW mine didn't start 'loosening up' 'till 6000 miles and carried on getting very noticeably smoother up to about 13/14000 miles. At 22,000 it's still getting a wee bit better!!

Ditch the 'cat' and fit a can, it really makes a world of difference to how tractable the engine is.
