Hi,

Thinking of buying an I-Mac, to use at home although still use PC for work.

Duties:
Internet,
Email,
Eh - internet,
Eh..Google Earth
Garmin stuff
Photos
Eh -internet.

Worth buying?

Bin

No

I have an iMac. I am a complete Apple fan. But Garmin stuff is currently not compatible, so no, not suitable.

The latest iMacs can run Windows OS as well, though it does not come supplied, so Garmins software should be able to be used.
The software needed is called Bootcamp, though there are other solutions available. However whilst I ave just bought a new imac, and it is fantastic, as yet I've not needed any windows stuff and cannot vouch for how easy the Bootcamp route to PC integration is.

As stated, I have an iMac, I also have Virtual Computer/Bootcamp etc, etc, etc. I have Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access, etc, etc etc.

I use my wifes work laptop (from cheapcomputersRus bargin bin) for Garmin stuff.

i love my imac id never have a pc again. buy a cheapo laptop for the garmin stuff. love the fact that there are no known viruses for the macs and you dont need any anti-spyware programs. hated my pc clogged up with antivirus this and system run that.... for me as a non game player the pc will never come close despite the cost.

everyone seems to be buying them recently too

Mactastic. I use virtual PC for stuff that I need to - generally a craptop doze PC does for all that Garmin rubbish.

Get a Mac - never go back. It's true.

Despite the crappy Mac vs PC ads, full of cringe making gloating about how easy Macs are to use and the out of the box productivity they are still the bestest bet. Like others have said, with the new Intel Macs there's no reason not to really. Just check that the Garmin stuff doesn't have any issues with the Intel/Mac software. I'm not so sure about Virtual PC as I'm a bit of a thicko where computers are concerned and apart from running my Anquet Mapping form within it, I've never really figured out how to use it . One thing is for sure though, Macs are more fun. You also get to be a smug git too, so I understand.

...was looking at the new imac the other week. The machine I was shown had the option of running both Apple OS and Windows.

Cant remember if it was XP or Vista - So this gives would solve yer Garmin issue....
