I had a deposit on the original 1290 but quickly dismissed that idea after test riding my mates ones for an hour. The new S model looks very good though

The GS felt great to me on the first quick test ride. Could have been I also owned a S1000R a the time

haha was actually the truth. I got a great deal on the 1290 but was really turned off on the ride. Would like to ride the new S model though but zero plans to ever sell my GS.

My mate never really loved his 1290 either and offered it to me at a very low price when he was buying a R1200R. I took it for another test ride for about 2 hours but still couldn't get on with it.

BMW Key* if you got keyless ride. Still can't believe the cheap bastards don't give a spare key.

It is keyless, but my roadlok security isn't. My Givi panniers aren't either.

So keyring starts to grow anyway. It's just nice not to have it all flapping around the top yolk and tucked safely into a jacket pocket.

I agree and love keyless just hate that they only give you one key when you've just blown 18 grand on a bike.
 
Bought my 2016 GS blind and sold it after a one weeks holiday to Scotland. Felt very underwhelmed with it compared to my 2009 GSA. Not in terms of power but the character it offered, that coupled with the horrible tyre noise and the back ache it gave me. Traded it for an XR which I loved in every way

Is that just a reaction, or do you actually need two keys though?

I've not missed a second key so far in over two years of ownership

Same logic applies to insurance. Why don't you just ride around without insurance? You won't need it until you need it. Just like your spare key.

It’s a grey plastic one that you use under the rear mudguard to turn on the bike..

Surely that’s all you need?

No you are not alone. I disliked the 1200LC in both forms after a long love affair with my AC 1200. Still not a massive fan of the ADV but have absolutely love my GS TE Exc.
the Adv is just too big, wide and bulky for me, I’m It knocking it per se just it feels bloated to ride. As to Anakees, again not a fan, specified Bridgestones on mine and it’s sweet as a nut. :thumb

I'm pretty sure the plastic key is only for the panniers. The little tiny nipple is actually the keyless ride key and needs to go under the seat for 30 seconds to start it. That's what I was told.

The official suggestion from the dealer... Take out key insurance and in a couple or months make a claim. Bingo, two keys. Love the bike but I've had cars bikes and mopes costing fractions of the GS and all came with two (real) keys.

Exactly that, and I even ordered an extra spare plastic one, that I keep in the wallet, and other original plastic one at home, for the just in case it never happens moment..........:D

if you have "lost a key" and claim for a new one the original will be deleted from the bike,(is what should happen )
