I must ride with Penguin Feet

I chucked my Honda CBR 600 RR up the road after pushing it too far, there is a very fine line between pushing on a bit and pushing your luck. Tell tale signs are when the front wheel starts to "hop" you are usually at the limit then.

On the GS I reckon that if your feet are scraping the floor and they are properly on the pegs thats as far as you probably want to be on the road. Do a track day if you want to go further as there are no painful road signs / busses.

I regularly surprise myself like this, if I know I am "making progress" I do tend to move my foot back, but now and again I whack it on the floor when I think I am going quite steady.

It used to happen on the Tourances, it is far more common on the Roadsmarts which give me more confidence.

Adding pre-load to the shock helps improve ground clearance, I run my suspension very high at the back (about 24mm static sag, which is about 10-15mm higher than a stock bike without pre-load added)

One thing to remember is just because a someone can deck out the engine on tyre x does not mean you can, if it were that simple we would all ride at Rossi's pace.

I ride to where I am comfortable, but once pegs start touching I tend to back off before something solid hits and runs you wide or reduces grip and has you off . My old ZZR1100 would deck out the pegs now and again, one day I threw it into a roundabout a bit too quick and the silencer hit as well, luckily I had a load of extra room to run wide, but still had a damaged silencer - lucky escape and lesson learned.

Have fun, but keep it upright :thumb

I've been through a brand new pair of Alpinestars on a track day doing this, the £200 a pop for new boots taught me to move my feet a little inwards.

R1200GSA ridden in a spirited fashion around the twisties.
With the balls of my feet on the pegs, I have scraped.....
