I need a Multi tool thingie

I've got a Leatherman 200 as well, but after several years of hard use it's sort of gone floppy...they do have a 25 year warranty but there's no way I'll be able to find the receipt :(

Hi Fanum I have managed to break several of these (through abuse, but they don't need to know that:augie), and have always just taken them into an authorised dealer and just been given a replacement.

Got to be worth a try at Blacks or Millets.

Cheers Tom

In all fairness, I spent 10 yrs of my career using multi-tools several times a day. The Leatherman Wave was the de facto standard... until Gerber came out with the Legend:

With multitools, so many of them require opening to use all the bits...not so with the Legend. Also, other tools when using the pliers you get to grip all the other tools which is hard on the hands when squeezing hard - the Legend you get the smooth edge to apply pressure to. And:
  • Pliers are spring loaded
  • Carbide wire cutters are replaceable
  • Wire cutters have 3 sided head, so can be rotated in the field for a new cutting edge
  • Saw blade takes standard jigsaw blades, so user replaceable with new or the blade type of your choice
  • Fiskar's Scissors

Simply, the Legend is streets ahead of the competition in terms of ergonomics and practical usefullness.

The other day I found myself in need of a knife, a screwdriver, wire cutter, wire stripper and a pair of pliers. Needless to say, I had none of those things to hand and it was only the very kind Police officer being such a lovely chap that allowed me to continue on my way without contributing to Gordon (robbin' barsteward) Brown's coffers.

So, which of the myraid of multitools out there should I buy?
Is Leatherman still the one to have?
And are there bargains to be had?

Its down to personal choice Personally I prefer the Gerber range particularly the ones which can be opened single handed ( though not a great lover of the spring loaded Recoil model)
As I like gadgets and tools went through a stage of buying them as they were released (If anyone has the T3 MP500 unopened never did manage to get one!)
Leatherman warranty can not be faulted any I have damaged have been swapped out instantly and FOC at the importers at Kendal.
Never had the need to have a Gerber repaired though I believe they have a lifetime guarantee

Sad I know but here are some of mine!!!

Leatherman Crunch, I use it dozens of times a day and if I lost it I'd have a new one tomorrow.

Victorinix multitool for me - handy little ratchet with it , fabulous quality , locking blades and just and all round great bit of kit and is not made in the US of A :thumb2 which is an element in my buying choice.

Threads like these should be removed immediately and the posters banned for life .:spitfire

On a lighter note my new Leatherman Crunch arrived today:D:augie

To Brain O

Where did you get the multitool with the separate heads in the picture? I have been after a multitool with side cutters since i don't know when. Please let me know where you got them or would you sell them:thumb?

Cheers
